MASS CALLING 2ND GEAR TO AMERICAN HONDA
http://www.*************/forums/mech...can-honda.html
***MODS FEEL FREE TO MAKE THIS A STICKY OR MOVE TO BEST LOCATION, THE FOLLOWING APPLIES TO ANY VEHICLE WITH THE K-SERIES TRANNY W/ GRINDING ISSUE, SORRY ABOUT MULTIPLE POSTS, WANTED THREAD TO BE VISIBLE TO EVERYONE***
"Please only make a post if you're acknowledging your participation in this event so we can get a good idea of how many people will be calling. Say "CALLING" or "DOWN" followed by a comment.
Well American Honda claims to not know about our problem with 2nd gear. Let's let them know. The 8th civic community is huge and so is the number of people driving civics with a fckd up 2nd gear. Our numbers being so large can be a huge advantage to us.
What I'm asking here is for everyone with the seond gear problem to call American Honda on September 28th (next monday) around 12-2pm (or at least during business hours if you can't make the timeline)
What you'll need:
September 28th (Next monday)
American Honda's #: 1-800-999-1009
Your VIN number.
When you call just state your problem with second gear as well as how dissapointed/pissed/frustrated you are, past experiences with dealerships, etc etc anything that will help."

There was actually already a recall on the 6 speed tranny's 3rd gear. I'm not sure if I follow the point of this thread. Of course there will be a lot of people with Honda's with 2nd gear grinding, that's because the majority of Honda owners race or drive their cars pretty hard, whether it be on the track or on the street. I'm not hating on this thread but maybe some more evidence that it's a factory defect would be necessary?

So you're more asking if this is a problem with our chassis? There was a factory recall on the RSX-S 3rd gear but that is something that is just covered under the owners warranty and only covers the 3rd gear replacement I believe.
The EP3 chassis doesn't have the recall, though many people will notice 2nd gear grind. I believe that is mainly because of shifting too quickly into 2nd gear due to the shifter being on the dash and allowing in a faster shift. I can't really prove that, but I think that is a fair assumption.

Just heads up, I been through two trannys: stock '04 RSX Type-S & ITR. As long as you change your transmission oil frequently, you shoudln't have any issues at all. I change my transmission oil every other oil change and it's shifting smooth like it's brand new.
not sure if this helps your case at all, but i'm bored so here's my story:
when i got my ep in april 02', third gear ground every time you shifted into it, no matter what rpm. even if i rev matched a shift perfectly, it would grind, without fail, every time.
took car back to closest dealership to my work (not the same dealership i bought it from).
service manager claimed i was racing it (which really pissed me off because i certainly was not at this point), but said they'd warranty it one time.
they replaced 2 & 3 gears, 2 & 3 synchros, clutch, and t.o. bearing.
got the car back with the same grind in third.
took car back to dealership. this time, service manager would not acknowledge the third gear grind, even though it was exactly the same as it was before.
call american honda. a. h. sets up appointment with dealership. car goes back to dealership. who knows what they actually changed this time, but i get car back with same third gear grind.
call a. h. again. request to take car to different dealership - and was denied because basically "the dealership that broke it has to fix it." ok whatever. a. h. sets up third appointment, and at this point i'm really hoping they fail again so this could be considered a lemon....
this time, dealership replaces just about everything in the transmission. get the car back shifting into third like butter. the culprit turned out to be a bent shift fork, i'm guessing from someone who test drove it before i bought it.... it's been fine ever since though, and i just turned 174,000 miles.

I don't think that helps his case at all. A bent shift fork has nothing to do with the recall on the 6 speed transmission's 3rd gear.
Way to kill some time though
