Default Hondata s300 module only or ECU?

I'm looking into picking up the s300 to tune my JRSC ITR. It's currently run on piggyback JR modules. I've been on the Hondata Site and it's a little confusing. From what I understand, the module can be purchased by itself, and soldered into my stock ECU or I could buy a "pre-prepped" ECU along with the module. What is the benefit to having another ECU? aside from maybe having the stocker for resale of the vehilce? Also it gives 2 different plug options: one for 96-98 integra, and one for 98 and up. Well mine is a 98 so which one is right?? Lastly, does the s300 module have preloaded maps to be used before getting pro-tuned? I had a cobb access port for my sti that you could load maps from, or have a tuner load custom maps onto.

You can't install an s300 system into an obd2 ecu.

You will need to use an obd1 ecu with an obd2a to obd1 harness or a hondata obd1 ecu with obd2a plugs built into it.

You will need to un-install the JRSC ecu module.
You will need to use the proper sized injectors & fuel pump for your application.

The s300 has pre-loaded basemaps in the smanager software but they don't always work very well.

Feel free to contact us with any specific questions you may have as we are an authorized hondata dealer.

I wasn't planning on swapping injectors/fuelpump because I'm not looking to run any more boost. I was only considering the S300 for safety, and to use the current 6lb setup as effective as possible. So if I'm hearing you correctly, I cannot just install the module. I need a separate ECU regardless. Is there an advantage between using the harness/OBD1 vs the Hondata ECU/built in plug?

It does have the JR BCT and MAP mods. I just thought the Hondata would allow for a more specific/safer tune possibly with better performance. Do you think the upgrade is a good idea or would it be a waste due to my not upping the boost?

Yes, you need an obd1 based ecu. There is no advantage to running the ecu with the obd2 plugs build in.

You are going to have to tune the s300 system with a wideband oxygen sensor gauge & a laptop for the best result. The whole reason behind switching to a hondata system would be to yield higher horsepower & have a car with a REAL tune on it.

And it takes the place of both the BTC and MAP controllers that are currently installed?

Yes and it will be much safer when propely tuned.
