94 EX VTEC four banger

I am stuck on getting the Timing Tensioner bolt loose. I have tried the following:

--14mm wrench will not move the bolt, even using the closed end.
--3/8” Drive breaker bar will not fit with the socket because the frame is in the way.
--Lowered the engine, but it still will not clear the frame to get the breaker bar or rachet onto the tensioner bolt.
--Tried another wrench at the end of the 14mm open side of the wrench (the wrench trick) from the top of the engine and the bottom of the engine, still will not budge.
--Sprayed a little of WD-40 and let it sit for hours, still won't move the tensioner bolt.

The only other option I can think of is to purchase a pipe big enough to cover the open end of a 14mm wrench for leverage to loosen it like I did the Crank pulley bolt. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried anything else to loosen it.

Any suggestions?

I am using the "How-To: Replace Timing Belt, Timing Balancer Belt and Water Pump on a F22B1" and so far it has been right on the money!

 

WD-40 is not the best for loosening bolts. Try PB Blaser, Kroil, or a 50/50 mix of acetone and auto transmission fluid (the best).

I had the same problem as you. I took my wrench to Lowes and bought a pipe that fit the end. She came right off...

In fact, I keep several different ID pipes 's and connectors on hand that will fit over just about anything. Very inexpensive breaker bars.

be careful doing that ive snaped 14 mills like that my sugestion is see if u can lower the passanger side so u can get to the bolt hit it with pb wd 40 head it up a little with a propane tourch then hit it with a power impact if ya got one thats if the cheater pipe wont work

 

You might try one of the those flat bar serpentine belt tools. They're long and skinny with a socket thing on the end. You can get into places where most breaker bars won't fit and because of the long handle you can get tremendous leverage.

Thanks for the advice guys. Went to Lowe's again and purchased a bigger pipe.
Pulled the hood all the way back, sat the pipe on top of the wrench, and tapped on it a couple of times with a sledgehammer, came right loose! The pipes oblivion2kx is referring to is a basic metal pipe. Something like you would see outside your house for the gas line or you would see coming from your water heater, just a little bit bigger.

 

yeap that should do just make sure you dont strip the bolt lol well hope to here how you do

 

too true. I only use my "breaker bar" on 17 mm's and up.
