Anyone elses B16A sound like crap?
I'm not sure if it was just my motor but it just sounds like complete crap. Ticking and tapping like a broadway show. The thing runs great, I have no complaints other than I forgot to buy torque with the thing, shoulda gone 18 or 20. Anyways, just wondering if you fellow B16'rs have had any issues with noisy motors?
when i had my b16 i had a tapping/ticking sound as well..it would go away and come back sporatically. my local honda mechanic said that it was very much like the early H22s..but nothing to worry about.
mines also sound like crap. have exhuast and filter, but other than that, its completely stock. Even though it runs good, it SOUNDS like its choking.
If anyone has any ideas, let us know.

My 97 GSR was making loud tapping until I retarded the timing back to stock, from the previous adjustment of 19 degrees. I only noticed this louder ticking when they dropped the the octane level by one point (92-91) here in SoCal. As far as my B16 rex she was slightly loud with ticking as well, until I installed cam gears only advancing my intake 3 degree, exhaust left at zero, and the timing set at 14 degrees. They're both quiet now, just my experience. Oh yeah I made sure the valve clearance was good too, just to eliminate that factor.

ive heard that its the low impedance injectors that make that noise. but if its me id start with getting a good solid tuneup done. its probably just valve adjustment, i know mine goes out of adjustment more than its in adjustment what can i say i love reving the **** out of it, it likes it i think?

Mine's always done that loud ticking sometimes at idle too - sounds scary!
It's not the valves though - how do I know? Five - FIVE - valve adjustments in one month, and it's still ticking
I think it's the injectors, personally.

The a1's have the common problem once in a while you hear a noise described as "marbels inside the valvecover".. nothing to worry about it's the stationairy spring inside the block (dunno the exact english word for the thing)

if you ain't doing anything this weekend, let me know.. i think i'm going to the junkyard in the am on saturday, but other than that...
recheck timing and adjust valves, once that's out of the way you won't have to worry about it. But I agree with the injector comments, if it really gets on your nerves you could always get new injectors I guess.
