Someone said that it might be fore cruise control? I have a similar box on the back of my gauge cluster for my 91 HF and no one seems to know what it's for. The cluster does not have a shift light either.
In any event, does anyone have the pinout for it? I'd like to know what wire/pin is for what (ground - power - signal) so I can make some use out of it.

on the service manual it says that if is for "HF" only so i am in the conclusion that it is the sift light i. i have a dx auto and man cluster and both of these have it. i disconnected it once but did not notice nothing funny.
if you look real close you can see that one wire goes to the circuit board to the mph and a ground coming off the tach. it then goes to the circuit board that is inside

Can you identify the wires? I want to use it for ground and power, if applicable.

well I took a look at the wires on the plug and they are colored - GRN/yel - GRN - GRN/blk - RED - RED/blk
I'm guessing red = power and red/blk = ground
going to test it out with a voltmeter when the car is running again.

I think that box has different uses depending on the cluster/car its from. On my CRX DX it's the speed sensor amplifier, on the LX/EX sedans it controls the cruise control indicator, and I guess judging from that service manual it control the HF's shift light. The red and red/blk are for the guage lights and are hooked up with the dash brightness control. If your car has green wires instead of yellow, you might find 12v on the GRN. I wouldn't use the red or red/blk for anything, you could burn out your dash light circuit.

Looks like I MAY be able to make good use of it, thanks for the diagram.
Now does anyone know if the yel/red speed sensor wire goes to the ECU and if it is the same for electronic VSS?
according to that diagram, it mentions nothing about a shift light.
