Icon2 Help with paint removal

I picked up a d series engine yesterday and it has red high temp paint overspray in areas, a small amount on the valve cover, dist. Cap etc... I was planning on getting some aircraft paint remover and removing it but thought I would ask about it first, because I know it's safe to use on the valve cover, just not sure about anywhere else...any opinions/ suggestions are appreciated..

Should be safe on anything metal (Double check the back of the container though, to be sure). I would just keep it away from rubber seals/wires, things of that nature.

What would you recommend to use to remove paint on other areas, such as the distributor cap?

Hmm...I think for the cap, you might be best off sanding it off, scuffing the whole thing, and repainting. Or even better you could get a new cap...they're not that expensive. Since it's plastic, Aircraft Stripper would most likely mess that up. For other plastic parts, you're pretty much going to have to sand/paint them or replace them unfortunately. I've seen automotive paint (urethane) reducer strip rustoleum off of things before, but I would be a little hesitant to put that on plastic and rubber.

Maybe someone else can add some insight on the plastic parts...

I think your probably right alot of the plastic can be replaced easily, unless someone else knows a way to remove the paint, lol. I believe that pouring this stuff on plastic will yield a result similar to pouring pure acetone on plastic, it will simply melt it.

aircraft will not eat through plastic ive used it on plastic pieces before and they ended up fine but like cody said just make sure you wipe it off thoroughly and keep it away from your skin.
