Time for an oil change and coolant flush, on a 2000 Civic Si. Ive never owned a dohc vtec so what is the recommended oem oil and coolant type? Used H-T search and briefly browsed AllData but I thought id get a better response from an actual owner.

 

If you can afford it, higher quality oil and especially synthetic oil will help generally. Royal Purple, Mobil 1, and Castrol are some brands I would recommend. Check your manual for the number oil you will need, but I would say 10-30 or 10-40 will work fine depending on the miles.

honda calls for 5w30, now I run mobil 1 which is synthetic but I also like castrol gtx for conventional. I also use purolator pure one filters which is pl14459, a lot of people reccommend the honda filter which are pretty good too, about the only filter I cannot would be fram as I would stay away from them.

 

5w30 and a Honda blue filter or a HAMP if you don't mind ordering them.

 

i mostly run castrol 5w-30 synthetic blend in mine, honda does call for 5w-30, but some poeple as run 10w30 w/out any problems,,, filiters doesnt really matter, i have never ran fram and wont.

and i would just run the best 50-50 mix you can find, dont cheep out and shell love you for a long time.

 

I use Castrol GTX 5w30. Have tried synthetic, but I honestly don't see the point... I'm already paranoid enough that I change oil at <3000 miles. When I was using synthetic, I used Castrol Syntec, and it was fine, and slightly cheaper than Mobil 1.

Wix filters are good. That's what I use because they're the best brand my local store stocks.
Purolators Pure 1s are excellent, and internally identical to the Mobil 1 and K&N filters. Hamps are alright
OEM S2000 filters are good.

USDM OEM Civic/Teg/Prelude/everything else filters are mostly junk now. You can still find the old style good ones around, but most dealers are out of them. They changed up the design and they are now internally almost identical to the Fram Extra Guard.

Frams are junk. Cut one open next to a quality filter sometime and you'll see why. It's all cardboard and flimsy plastic inside.

As for coolant, I've always used the Prestone green stuff and mix it myself. No real reason except that's about all I ever see that's not some off-brand.

Funny you guys mention that Fram filters are garbage, my instructors at school tell us the same thing. Im open to more suggestions.. if anyone knows where I can find an engine cooling system and lubrication system map/illustrations for the honda b-series online let me know

for coolant most people reccommend the honda brand and it's already pre-mixed so you just gotta pour it in.

 

i would suggest prolly mobil1 or royal purple. i run royal purple in mine and runs smooth. royal purp ftw.

 

Royal Purple is awesome! It is my highest recommended oil, only problem with it is it goes bad quicker than most other brands. Be sure and check on it ~2000 miles...

 

Coolant : Honda coolant is what I run on all my hondas. It's about the same price as prestone and other comparable.

Oil: As others have said castrol coventional is good stuff. I have ran that in my integra since 36k miles. At 166k miles it's burns no oil. Purolator filters are my choice. If you have a lot of miles or if your car has not run synthetic oil before, it may start to leak. How many miles are on the engine?

Thanks everyone I ended up using 10w30 castrol gtx and oem honda filter & honda brand coolant. Although Im still looking for the oil and coolant maps so if anyone has any suggestions let me know
