Default b16 cam bolts KEEP BREAKING!!!

So I have a B16a2 that i've been building onto for about a year. I've finally come down to the point where I have to torque the cam plates down(theres about 18 bolts total) I Know the torque spec is 20lbs and I am using the proper torque sequence, my torque wrench is brand new and I also oiled the threads. Iv'e also replaced all of them with new OEM bolts from honda Twice. the only thing I can think of wrong is that i'm using a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter on the torque wrench. Is this wrong???

Thanks in advance,

-Ray

just because your torque wrench is new, does mean its properly calibrated. If it was droped, left at a high torque setting when stored, used as a breaker bar, ect it can loose its calibration. Also most torque wrenches are not accurate at bottom and top 10%... meaning your torque wrench needs to be in a middle setting for it to be more accurate, if 20 is the lowest setting, find a smaller torque wrench. Which it sounds like a big one if your using an adapter.

Borrow one of your friends to see if yours is right or wrong.

20ft/lbs is too high, you will break used bolts

tq em to 18, make sure to use a very SLOW smooth motion. stop at the first sign of a click.

you should not be using a 1/2 inch torque wrench for this, go buy a 3/8drive torque wrench. adapters and extensions dont make any difference

I always torque to 18 and use a 3/8" drive wrench

Most big cities have a business that can calibrate tools, call a snap-on/matco/mac tool rep one of them should know, or try local machine shops, and check the phone book.

What is the low/high settings on yours?

how much did you spend on the torque wrench? if it was less than $100bux, just go buy a new one, its not worth the hassle, plus you need a 3/8drive torque wrench anyway

unless its an electronic wrench i think 20 lbs on a half inch is barely noticable.. a 3/8 would do you better.
