Default Insurance for modified cars?

I was wondering if anyone knew of an insurance company that could tailor to modified cars? I searched but found little info, only about theft deterrent devices. I ask because im about to buy a highly modified eg and i'm seeing all these DAILY threads about stolen vehicles. It's making me sick to my stomach and i havent even picked up the car yet. I'm willing to pay a lot higher premium just to protect my baby...any info would be appreciated. thanks

I think most buy and modify these cars for a reason, the insurance isnt high like it is with a car from a factory thats performance oriented. Get a good security system. If you total it, part it out.

not really worried about totaling it, although that's a possibility. more worried about theft coverage than anything...

some guy had a write up, i am pretty sure you just make a write up with receipts or just get an insurance adjuster to estimate how much the total value is and you can use any insurance company

even if it says ricer that'd be okay with me, just as long as the insurance rates are lower lol

maybe its hopeless. im searching around right now and it seems the ol' saying on h-t is "if they really want your car, they'll get it." maybe i should buy a glock.

I know alot of people that work for Hagerty Insurance here because they are based out of my city. I know they will insure modified cars. Not sure of the premium though.

I think most of them will insure parts that are added to the car as long as you provide them with receipts where you purchased them. But I'm sure that stuff is limited too though and I'm sure they would jack the rates up since then they know for a fact your car has been modified.

thanks, i'll have to check out hagerty insurance. even if the rates are jacked up i'd still most likely be willing to pay just for ease of mind. because that means a lot to me.

a potential problem would be that this car is already built and done. and im sure they dont wanna hear about how much it costs to get a k20 into an 1992-95 honda civic lol. the only "receipt" i'd probably have would be for the actual purchase of the car.

If it's available in your area, just get LoJack and regular full-coverage insurance. If your car is totaled or they can't get it back, LoJack gives you like $2500, on top of the insurance company's payout. That way you're only paying to have LoJack installed (pretty sure it's only the one-time fee for LoJack and then that's it) and you won't be paying a ****-ton of money for "modified car insurance".

thanks for the advice, i didnt know lojack would reimburse you for a loss. i'm on their website and it definitely looks worth its salt (on paper). im reading other similar articles from different sites and they too are recommending lojack. even one from a former professional car thief. i'll give it a shot. thanks guys.

i have geico. whenever i call to change my policy or add a new car, they ask me if it is modified with aftermarket performance parts. i say no. but, i asked them what would happen if i did, and they said they offer extra coverage for that type of thing. they need to see the car in person though to verify that you have done, what you say is done to the car.

I read halfway through the thread but got lazy, so Idk if someone said this, but Geico might, I know a couple years ago someone in my area had their EK stolen from school, and the insurance payed him 11-13k for the car, he had receipts to all the modifications he'd put into the car, so they cover it, or did. It's worth a call.
