I just bought a 1998 Honda Civic EX with a d16Y8 engine and 5spd transmission. The engine is shot and has a bad rod knock. I just want to swap a motor in here that will work. What engine codes can I use? Also what years? Thanks in advance!!

Rod knock... Why are these motors so susceptible to this?
Ive had 2 motors with rod knock.

Are you into performance?? If so swap in a B16 or LS, or VTEC B18. If not swap in another Y8 and keep an eye on your oil.

 

I am just looking to put a stock motor in but dont know what engine codes I can use the same tranny and wiring for thanks Justin

 

Just get another Y8....

 

But,,,,I am in the same boat in that I have a Non vtec and bought a VTEC Motor w/ECU I know I have to add a few wires to the ecu and tie in the Vtec solenoid,,,

But will it hurt anything run without the Vtec solenoid being hooked up???
