95 h/back d15b7 engine swap
So after the little dilemma of copying the wrong firing order. Got it sorted out. Everything is back together. Now checking the timing, the marks won't come up to exactly the correct position, but I've run out of adjustment on the distributor. I'm thinking that the belt has stretched,I don't know how old it is. Anyone have any suggestions? The marks need to move about 3/4 of an inch toward the front, coming up from the rear. The engine seems to be running o.k. so far.
it honestly easier to get a new timing belt if u thing something is wrong with the old one. its a little difficult to change it if its still in the car but it is worth it in the long run.
Yes, sadly I've come to that conclusion also. I picked up the new belt this morning, and now am kicking myself for not changing it while the engine was out,DOH! Thanks for the reply.
I had the service connector jumped ,but hadn't checked the idle. Dug out my 25+yr.old equus analyzer, and read up on connecting for lo tach. It has 2 alligator clips, black goes to neg.bat. terminal,o.k. but the red clip is supposed to go to the neg. ignition coil terminal. The booklet shows an old fashioned type external coil, but my manual says the coil is inside the dist. housing. Any ideas where to connect the red clip? Or is this tool not able to work on this engine? Or am I the tool?
The tach signal comes from the blue wire attached to the igniter unit in the distributor. You can access this same blue wire in a tach connector located in the area around the clutch master cylinder.
G'day, so I located a connector, right beside the clutch reservoir, taped to the rest of the harness with blue tape. It has 2 terminals ,one with a blue wire going in,the other with a small black rubber plug that I popped out with a pin. Is this the connector you reffered to, and would I be correct to put a wire into the empty side,so that I can hookup the red alligator clip of my analyzer? Sorry to come across as such an amateur, but I've never done a job of this scope by myself before.
