Default Intake Manifold Material?

Just wondering what thickness of material everyone was using for your intake plenums? Where are you guys buying it from?

Thanks
RYan

PS- im talking about aluminium.

thats where i got my material for this intake. 1/4" thick, its pretty much indestructable.

I was thinking of something more along the lines of this:

I think it would fit better in the engine bay then the D shaped plenums.

really dont think the d plenum will have any fitment issues as long as the runners arent too long. but the one you pictured could be made from tubing and flat stock 3/16 should be a good general thickness but if its for an n/a setup you could probably get away with 1/16 if you needed to or up to 1/4. the most important thing would be to try and research and find the ideal plenum volume and runner length, but that is pretty hard to find some times.

Where can you get thicker walled tubeing from? Id be looking for 4" 90's or 45's to make something like shown above. Ive seen the intercooler piping stuff and its pretty thin. Thinner then id really like to use for an intake plenum. I was thinking 3/16 for the plenum.

The reason id like to use this style of intake versus the D shaped plenum is because of where it places the throttle body. Im very limited for space, and with the intake shown above, it would make intercooler piping fitment a piece of cake. That and it would have a slightly larger plenum volume in comparison to the D shaped.

mcmaster.com has straight up to 5", and i usually get my flat plate from http://www.metalsdepot.com/index.phtml?aident= but i dont know where to get the bends from that thick. what engine/car are you making this for??

edit: there is also a where to buy thread stickied at the top of the fab forums but i havent looked at in a while there might be a place to get bends from in that list.

1/8" is plenty, thats all i ever use without any problems. its just a matter of how they are put together.

russianvr4 - i am currently doing some flow testing on the same engine at the moment. actually should have standard flow figures back by the ned of the week and have a couple of orders for guys over there in the US for them. We'll see how we go before and after.....and dam that is some nice welding you have going on there.

All ours are 1/8th inch but they are made alittle different than how most tappered style plenums are.
