Just got a civic and I need some help
I'm Jordan, I have a 1995 Honda Civic with a D15, It's fairly stock with the acception of some no-name short ram and some whatever exhaust headers. I just got it a few days ago and I was wondering if you guys could help me solve whatever is wrong with it.
It is smoking a lot (burning oil, blueish smoke not white coolant smoke) and I'm pretty sure that is due to piston rings. It feels like I'm losing power after about 4K RPM and it actually hits a rev limiter at 5.5K. I have a check engine light on, code 7, (Throttle position sensor). Could that be why it's limiting? I know a little bit about hondas from fixing up my last car which was a POS DA9.
I'm pretty sure I have two issues going on. I think I'm losing top end power because of the lost compression from the rings. But is it supposed to be rev limiting at 5ish? Shouldn't it rev limit on the redline?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hmmm. First of all, which model car do you have. It's probably a d15b you have in there, which is a vtec motor. The rev limiter in that car is 7400 rpms, and the vtec comes in at 5,000 rpms. It sounds to me like your vtec isn't engaging which would be why it's SLOOOW as *****. Perhaps your vtec solenoid isn't engaging.
Hondas typically blow oil (moreso the older ones). Especially in vtec. But if your vtec isn't engaging it could be blowing it more than it should be in the higher rpm's.

It is (I think) an LX. I just checked and your right it has a D15B in it. Could someone direct me to how to check my vtec solenoid? Wow, I didn't know I had vtec hah.

Well, first you should do a compression test. That will tell us if you got one cylinder leaking or more. And since you know you have the d15b8, we know you dont have vtec.
yea do a compression test on all cylinders. and man just find a swap even an ls motor is nice. thats torque up the ***. how much did you get it for. before i buy a car. i usually do a compression test. i then redline to look for smoke out of the exhaust thats how i know that the motor is till nice and listen to any knocking at 3k rpms. smell the oil to see if it smells burnt that way you know the motor isn't beat on or not. my best option if your burnig oil or leaking or need replacing here and there. just swap the ls is cheap and pretty nice.

I only bought the car for 2k
So I decided to go B-series. Probably LS/V or just LS for now, it depends on my money situation. Thanks for your help, I'm sure I'll have plenty of help on here.
