urethane mounts gone wrong. help please!
So I took to long working with the urethane. When I moved onto my second mount, the stuff was hardening to a point where it wouldn't settle in the mount correctly...My question is, how can I loosen it up so I can continue? I was thinking about heating up the can with map gas or propane. It's from Mcmaster Carr if that matters. PLEASE HELP!
Did you mix it correctly? I made some bushings with the 60a stuff and carefully weighted it out with a digital scale. At about 70*F it took hours for it to set up, more than enough time to pour it into a mold.
The 3M quick set window urethane works fine too. You don't have the advantage of being able to pour it in, so it can be messy, but it's not bad for a fairly stiff mount.

according to the directions on the mcmaster carr, both bottles were "carefully" measured out to be the perfect match up so I just used the full contents of each bottle right away. I just read that someone else who used mcmaster had done the same thing so I'm 99 percent sure I mixed it right
I thought I read somewhere it gets dry pretty quickly...I just didn't think it would be this quick. I got the first mount done fine. Would it be awkward to use 3m on my second mount even though my first mount is going to be a softer urethane?

I'm not sure about the way you mixed it, but that is often the case with 2 part chemicals. All I know is that I did it by weight and it worked great. Maybe yours had moisture in it. I remember reading that you are supposed to displace any air in the cpntainer with CO2 or something before resealing. Maybe yours wasnt sealed right from the factory?
You could use the 3m stuff on the other mounts without a problem I think. I would just try to have any opossing mounts have the same stiffness. like the tranny and the timing belt mount be the same or the two torque mounts or whatever you have on your engine.

do you think it's a big deal if the two mounts have different stiffness levels? I think the 3m stuff has around a 90a stiffness versus a 60a in the mount i did manage to make.
To be honest, I'm only doing my side ones right now because they're the culprits (I didn't fill those same ones. I got replacements). I know my front and rear may fail quicker though since they won't have the same restraint.
I mixed mine in the cans they came in. Because it siad they were alreay measured out. It took forever for those things to dry. And it really sucked because I half assed taping it up and it started to leak after a while so I had to try and tape it all back together while it was leaking out. made a godamn mess and I didnt have enough to do the 2 lower torque mounts. so I had to buy more. Point is it shouldnt have dried on ya unless it took you forever to pour the first one
Well with me having to worry about retaping the bottom when i noticed my first leak, it took me probably a max of 10 minutes to do one. Maybe I spent too much time stirring the contents or something. Oh well, I messed up I suppose. So bailhatch thinks it's okay to mix types of urethane...anyone oppose?
