rubber couplers snapping off and breaking
i got a d16z6 turbo and i keep on breaking and popping my rubber coupler, what do you guys recommend for my next set of couplers, right now i got cheap regular ones with regular clamps i'm planning on getting new clamps and couplers which ones are good for 200-300 whp??
Thanks
Thanks
get good reinforced silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps. do you have aftermarket motor mounts or mount inserts? it is possible the motor is rocking back and pulling the couplers apart if you do not have them.
t bolt clamps are a must!!! Get some triple ply couplings, really strong. What you need to do is bead roll the end of the pipes. Take the piping to someone who can weld, and have them either weld a ring around the ends of the piping, or just have them but 4 tack or beads on each side of the pipe, that way when you bolt your t-bolts on that will serve as a lip and they won't blow off.....
Get 3ply couplers and tbolts and like sixty-1hatch said have someone weld or tack up the end of the piping. here a good place to get couplers and clamps http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...y_Code=SIL-HMP
thanks guys i really appreciate all this info, i was already looking into the t clamps, but didn't know which way to go with couplers, that website is really good, those humps in the middle of the coupler should make a difference since that's how my coupler from the elbow of the turbo to the first intercooler pipe looks when it should be flat but after a couple races it would get like that when naturally was flat.
Do you have stock mounts?
I've never used a t-bolt on any of my setups. They aren't a magic bullet. The hoses with humps may help if your engine is moving while transitioning between loads.

actually home depot was my solution for my throttle body to IC pipe coupler they got this tick as coupler 3'' to 2.5'' my throttle body is was bigger than my piping so i had some getto stuff there to get it from 2.5'' to 2'' but know i'm fine in my with that coupler but i will still order the ones from that website plus t clamps.
My piping would blow EVERY pass @ the track, it was pissing me off. As a matter a fact, I had some cheap couplings and 90's from ebay originally, and I actually blew a hole right threw the 90 deg. one!!! That was only on 16psi, so they are pretty cheap. I had enough and bead rolled my piping, new couplings and t bolts, and I marked where they are when I tighten them and they NEVER budge. You'll be good to go, in the mean time if you spray some hairspray or something of that sort on the ends, then put your couplers on it will dry and stick alittle. We used to do that if we didn't have anything laying around.....
go to home depot or lowes and get some one is $5 with the t-bolt clamps, i hear they work well just dont use them on the turbo or engine, just on conecting the pipes since there not silicon. if you have 2.5" pipes then you should get 2" couplers at home depot
oh jesus. GET REAL COUPLERS
dont get no home depot crap, those things expand and crack and heat up and expand and slip off.
stop doin ghetto stuff to your car and it wont come off so often

Reinforced Tractor Trailer radiator hose works wonders... Its hella thick and some dealers even use a Chop Saw to cut it. I've used it quite a few times when in a Bind. Run a small bead of silicon around the pipe when you slip the coupler on also and get some T-clamps!
