Default Carb'd Honda Ignition System

Will the stock ignition control module accept a "hot" coil or does the module have to be upgraded also?

A fresh coil is a good idea. A "hot" coil is fine for the stock ignition. Do not expect any kind of performance increase.

How does the stock ignition module compare to a HEI module? I've had alot of luck replacing Dodge's lean burn ignition and Ford's Duraspark I with HEI modules.

Did you get a performance increase from the "hotter" spark or better ignition timing?

Both were factory originally. Just the module increased consistency. Adding the "hot" coil, increasing spark plug gap, and retiming a little gave NOTICEABLY better bottom end torque. Keep in mind- both were trucks which were used for towing. Did the super light springs in the Dodge- worked great- like an old 340 accelerating; but towing it was too much and had to compensate w/ a medium spring. Anyway I digress- the spark color went from yellow/orange to the whitest I'd seen and grounding the spark through a screwdriver to engine would arc at least an inch. Also had to change carb a little.
