Default swap overheating

i have a b16a swapped into my 93 civic. normally it runs perfectly and doesn't overheat. however when i really step on the accelerator or run the fan on cold in my car (i don't have a/c installed yet) the engine starts to overheat. and when it happens, i just put it on hot and turn it on high and the temp drops. it gets annoying though. i'm wondering if anyone else has had an issue or any advice to help get rid of this. the antifreeze was just refilled too and there is no leak so that shouldn't be a problem. i appreciate the help.

is your coolant low? It really sounds like your HG or water pump is bad. But more likely HG because its only really at high RPM's.

water pump isn't an issue because i replaced that when i got the engine so it's got a brand new one in it. and if the head gasket is leaking, wouldn't there be water coming out of my exhaust?

not always. because it can be leaking once ur driving and not at idle. Have you checked the torque on your head actually. Becuase it really sounds like your getting head lift @ high RPM.
