Default d16y7 turbo build setup

Hi, I have a 1997 ek hatch with a d16y7 motor. I want to boost it but it will still be my daily driver, so Im wanting a semi-reliable build but Im a student so I do not drive to work or all the time.

I have searched the forced induction forum a little and have learned a lot about boosting a motor. I have about 1300 to spend Canadian and would like to make 180 whp on about 7psi.

My questions are:

should I look to get a used turbo kit? is it risky?
what kind of turbo should I be looking at?
Any tips to make sure my setup is more reliable?
Internal or external wastegate?
how big of fuel injectors do I need?
Any tips people have that may have done a similar setup

a) running around with no pants on is risky...

b) assuming you want a fairly quick spool, a variety of turbos can work. Considering your budget, a 14b (mitsubishi turbo) would work nicely, and can be picked up for fairly cheap.. otherwise, a t3 off a factory turbo car will probably work pretty well for you.. http://d-series.org/forums/forced-in...o-id-list.html

c) buy quality parts.... if the y7 is working fine now, buy your parts as you get the money... don't buy cheap ebay or knock off's just to get them on the road... you will regret it when something blows...

d) look around for similar builds.. a lot of guys on Homemadeturbo would run internal because they were cheaper (and if you use something like an hf manifold, you don't have a spot for an external gate)

e) look around, but you might be able to get away with stock injectors... otherwise, dsm 450s would be a cheap alternative..
