Default should do a engine swap or rebuild?

I have a 90 crx si with a b16a1 engine. But it might have a knock, and I have a budget of about 1000 to 1500. should i do a swap or just do a rebuild?

There is no way you would be able to touch a k series for under 5k (probably more). Your budget is probably too small for a GSR too unless you can find a smokin deal. That leaves either another B16 or an LS. Or if you are adventurous you could probably pickup an LS short block and do an lsvtec... that's what I would do.

WHY NOT JUST FIND A GSR BLOCK AND DO THE POORMANS R. USE THE PISTONS OUT OF YOUR B16 TO RAISE THE COMPRESSION. YOU'LL BE HAPPY WITH IT! THE BLOCK WILL ONLY COST A FRACTION OF YOUR BUDGET WITH MONEY TO SPARE FOR GOODIES

Hmm true, didn't think about that. That would also be a good way to go and would probably be easier than an LSV.

why not just rebuild it. forged rods and pistons, some cams, new rings bearings. you can do that for around what your budget is.

it would be much easier than the lsv, more reliable also. wont have to worry with the external oil line or leaks.plus u can sell the b16 block and the gsr pistons for a little more cash for more goodies.

LS/VTEC is reliable with a good builder. People slap them together and they get a bad name.

rebuild it, why buy another used motor when you can have basically a new one for around the same cost.
