F23a1 Gains and drawbacks for an eg hatch, Throw all your info/pics here
I'm in the process of gathering everything to put a f23A1 in my 92 civic hatch.I've searched and searched but only came up with less then a handfull of pages that have any info.
I have the F23A1 LB allready so don't tell me to scrap the idea and just throw an h22 in ,if i wanted it i would have bought it. I'm going for different,budget friendly,quick and reliable. i hear the A1 wont rev much past 7k without trouble so what tranny's are gonna work best for a light car? I'm sure all you prelude and accord guys have tons of info on this motor and what works best. So lets here it.If you have pics lets see them
My "Idea"
99' F23A1 long block 154hp 152 tq
H23 Tranny
have no clue what intake mani will work best or work at all." for going obd1"
P28 obviously but how well does it run without retune? are there maps out there that will work?
will I run into the same mounting issues as the H22? "pan clearance,hood clearance"

Transmission: Well the H23 trans (if im not mistaken) has some long gear ratios (though not as long as an F series trans) but then again it would work decent with the F23 you plan to use.
Manifold: As for the manifold there arent alot if any options other than porting the stock manifold.
Mounting/Clearance: It will definitely clear the hood thats not an issue. It should clear the firewall well too. You'd have to change the drivers side mounting bracket to the H22 one as the mount kits that are made are meant for that style. Pan clearance will be the same as an H
ECU: The P28 ecu is a good choice but not to run the car without a tune. I would search around to see if there is a map to run it, but they are few and far between
If you had the coin, i would h2b it. the torque multiplication and trans gearing you'd get would make you smile even more than it would be with the H/F trans, plus no cutting. But if you cant (and since you want to be budget friendly) it will run just fine with the trans you have, Plus you can still use 87 octane

Thanks for the info, was starting to think no one would mention anything... well the plan is to just get it in there for starters. Then to put a ported 14b on it from a first gen tsi talon. few of my friends have that turbo and pretty much everything from the 4g63 and it works awsome on the stock LS. so i figure with some more cc's it should build boost quicker. 10 psi on E85 and i don't see why it couldn't be able to brake the 12's on slicks and be a good daily.
thats the dream anyways, just getting it in there and running is my goal for this winter.

I'm hitting up the local junk yard since they are having the half off days this weekend. I'll be bale to get the half shaft,shifter base and cables,prolly some more misc. stuff. gotta write a list lol
I didnt mean it being very long i meant longer than the H22. But it shouldnt be very noticeable, like putting a vx trans on an SI. Gotta love those half-off days

This is what i'm drop'n it into. might even leave the stock wheels. they've been on there since the day it rolled out of the factory. I just painted them black cause the orig. silver wasn't that sheek.
I have a question about the h22 drivers side motor mount, is that gonna bolt to the block mount or is there somethen tricky to do for it all to line up? I'm unclear if the F series and H series align the same with that mount. The others i read are bolt on ready.
I believe its a little different. I couldve sworn i seen somewhere that only two of the three holes line up on F series but then again ill look around and see if i find something
yeah i guess i'll have to just find out.. one thing i've been trying to see from pics is if all the different brands of mounts put the engine in the same place.. makes me wonder if one brand will be a better set to buy over another. i know i don't want to spend 500 on a set..

i saw those just the other day on ebay, and thanks for the info that clears up alot.. i almost bought those without any info on them.. i'll buy them now for sure..
will the h22a4 rods and crank work in the f23a1 block? both have 55mm mains, so i was curious. if they do that would be a great way to put stronger rods and pistons in the f23. it looks like the h22a4 has a long rod but shorter stroke.
this is what i've been looking at, let me know what you think or know..
Bore
H22A4 Block = 87mm/3.425
F23 block = 86mm/3.385
Rod Length
H22A4 = 5.633
F23 = 5.551
Crankshafts Stroke
H22A4 = 90.7mm/3.570
F23 = 97mm/3.818
Main Journal Diameter
H22A4 = 55mm
F23 = 55mm
Main Bearing Width
H22A4 = .784
F23A1 = .784
