So I have a 93 'Lude si. Ive been seriously thinking of going the eg hatchback way for a while. I was originally going to get a hatch and swap an h22 or b18. But I started thinking... What if I just swapped the h23 I already have, with 130k, but rebuild the top-end first? I havent seen many of these swaps around(if any) and wondered if that was for any particualr reason other then we'd all rather get an h22? And is it just as easy to drop an h23 as it is an h22? I don't think so but I wanted to ask.

I figured that with more torque than a B series i would still be getting almost the same performance no matter which swap I do.

It's just as much effort to put in an h23 into a Civic as it is to put in the H22. The reason people put the H22's in them instead of the H23's is because, if you're going to take the time and spend the $ to do the swap then you might as well go for the most power. It's not that the engine isn't worth swapping, it's just that most people who do the H-series swap want as much power as possible in just a swap (meaning no immediate turbo or all motor build up). Since you already have the H23, you might as well go for it if that's what you're looking for.

That **** is gonna be torquey!!! That would be a fun car. Then down the road you could put an h22 head on. It would be like an ls/vtec!

That swap is definetly worth it. Dont sleep on it. I bet that swap in a hatch on good tires would serve up a gsr hatch all day w/out vtec!

Im totally with you. It just seemed a little wierd that nobody else has really dont it yet, that Ive seen. Dont think I'd toss on an H22 head though. Too many problems unless I build the block. Maybe in the future.

So is there no negatives to this then???

Only if you're an idiot and you're hammering on your car all the time. My friend has had his h22a swap for almost 3 years now and only broke 1 axle because it was the wrong one. 2 years later and he's never had a problem since, and he's been running a turbo on it for the past year. If people get the right axle combo, then there's no reason to be breaking axles other than driver error or putting down more power than the axles can handle.

BTW i'm using the Hasport mount kit. And theres nothing wrong with putting an h23 in there and if you put a vtec head on it in the future you wont have any problems either, just respect your rev limits......John

i'm not saying it happens all the time, but it is a common problem with h22 swaps, quite a few people break axles, thats all i'm saying

hey i was going to put a h22 in my 98 civic ex and i found out that you sholdnt do it because putting all that extra weight on the front will wear out your springs and struts and may put a pitch on your tires. this is because there is too much weight in the front of the car and too much over the front axel. hope i helped.

Its not even that much weight, alot of people always put the whole "IT PUTS ALOT OF WEIGHT ON THE FRONT" problem out there, but its definitly worth it to go through with the swap. My boy has an h22 eg and that **** lays it down serious. Traction problems, the hole for the shifter box letting in noise and heat, are the only two things i can think of that are not problems but just little things.

The axels are gonna break just as often as any other stock horsepower rating axel... the problem is gettin new ones. you cant just go to the local parts store and get an axel. they are custom.

the total weight difference between a b series and h was 40-50 pounds. i read it on here. search if you want the write up. so if you were really worried about too much weight . no fat girls allowed

im in the middle of an h23 build up..to be dropped in a hatchie. so im interested to see how that will be

YOUR H22 AXELS WILL NOT BOLT DIRECTLY INTO ANY CAR BUT A PRELUDE. YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR REFERENCES.
