have a 2001 bmw e46
looking for a quick and simple check engine light fix , going to trade the car , and they r knocking off a 1000$ because the engine light is on , i would pull the bulb , but dont really feel like ripping the dash out anyone have another simple option or am in stuck wasting sunday removing the dash ????

 

disconnect the battery for a minute or two

 

tried that didnt turn it off ,

 

im 99% sure i know what it is. the "intake bellows" on these cars usually have a cut in them causing a rough idle and a check engine light.

idle is fine , but i pulled the bulb so whatever it was its not my prob anymore

haha you probly dont even know where the hose is broken. i PROMISE its broken.

 

we sprayed starting fluid all over it idle never increased, so i asumed it wasnt the prob????

 

your cluster is going to short out after 40 miles dude.

way to dick other bmw owners. me being one.

 

if you are having idle problems it is likely one of the intake boots. either off the throttle body or closest to the maf. common problem. idle problems in bmw's are sourced by a vacuum leak, o2 sensor, or maf.
