Mint 95 SI hatch... Motor questions
Before we get to far, No this is not my first honda build. I already have a 91 n/a B16 CRX, but thats my track car. I ran into every honda guys dream! I found a 72 yr old truck driver with a always garaged, only owner, MINT condition SI hatch. It is because of this i dont want to make another track car out of this car. I have always liked the possabilities with the B series motors but i first fell in love with hondas in a H22 hatch and love the torque, but like most the block isnt much to liking aftermarket pistons and thin walled, K series are expensive, and 1 off on everything so just as much to drop in... yet without turbos or makin the car unrelyable the B series doesnt put out the power i would like... I need suggestions on what motor to go with to make this car an everyday driver yet be respectable on the streets and can take a track day or two... Anyone help me out? and money isnt that great of an issue with this car, yet im no millionaire, im a technition....
Sounds like you can't make up your mind. You say money isn't and issue and yet you do. Figure out what you want then do it. You've built a track car so you should know whats up.
well, just for this time, I think I am going to let you slide on your spelling. Most guys would slam you a bit.
In my opinion, a B-series motor, when done correctly, should give you what you are looking for. It doesn't have to be anything crazy, just well rounded. If money really isn't an issue, I would buy a JDM type-r motor and spend a little money on good parts. A good header, Hondata, a good set of cams and a refresh on the head would be a great start. Type-r motors are amazing from the get go, and only get better as you modify them. The power is there, as well as the reliability. 180-190 whp is easily achievable without even touching the block, possibly without even pulling the head off. Stage 1 cams are great for the street and can be used with type-r valve springs and retainers. I would also suggest putting it on the dyno for a few hours and get every last hp out of it. Tuning will only improve reliability, gas mileage, driveability, and power.

Ya its always been CTR, ITR for me really.... i like the K20 and H22 cause of the straight out of the box power... Like i said i just want to keep my AC & PS and use it mostly for a daily drive, and the money issue is as simple as most, im not on a really tight budget but i am also paying for 2 bikes and 2 other vehicles so its not like i can just sign off a 9 grand check

High compression? Negative. The Highest Compression on a stock B20 is 9.6:1 on 99-00 spec. 8.8:1 on 96-98 spec. The B20 is actually one of the LOWER compression honda motors. I'm running 11.6:1 in mine, and to give you an example the b18c(Type R) is 11.1:1. The b18a or b will give you similar torque numbers, with much more reliability as it has thicker cylinder walls.
