Default 3 Sets of Lightbulbs fried?! Help...

About 3 months ago I decided to replace my original high and low beams (9006 and 9005) for the OEM style Sylvania Silverstar Ultra. Needless to say, the difference in light intensity was amazing and i thought the lights were a good buy. However, 2 months later my high beams blew along with 1 low beam. I attributed this to my alternator putting out too many amps (it was putting out 18 amps) so I replaced the bulbs and the alternator. Unfortunately, that was not the issue and while driving my high and low beams blew up again 6 weeks later. That was last Thursday. I replaced only the high beams and bought a high temperature light bulb plug (meant for using bulbs that were over 53 watts and 485 degrees Fahrenheit) like my friend had suggested to me. Tonight, the driver's side bulb blew and i am at a loss. I am 100% certain i didn't touch the bulbs and there was no oil on them when installed. So, now I have to look into what wiring may be causing this issue... but I do not know where to start. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Are they a bulb that I should avoid? Because I did not have this issue with the standard halogens.

Time to make friends with a multi meter, While I'm not aware of any problems with silver stars off hand perhaps try another brand if you've been having such issues with just them?

When I test the resistance through the wire with my VOM/Multimeter, what should the current be under? I heard that I Need less than 1 amp running through plug or else my lights will blow up like they are now.

I wont buy them again. I have buddies that have had the same issue. They dont last that long and they are too expensive to replace every coulpe months.

Try Ebay. I picked these up last year for under 7 bucks with free shipping. They work just as well as the silverstars and have not let me down yet. You could probably get 4 pair for price of the silverstars.

They are so inexspensive I bought extras from this seller for all my cars headlights and fog lights. So far only one has burned out over the last year. Now that I am stocked it's no big deal to replace one. He is quick to ship too.

Thanks for the link. But I am extremely curious as to how these bulbs can be so good, yet so cheap? Do you possibly have a link for the 9005 high beam bulbs?

I never picked up the high beams so I cannot comment on them for reliability. I seldem if ever use my high beams anyway.

Here is the link. Not sure why they are yellow but searching his store you can find HID blue/white hue with the correct wattage.
