Default New to hondas, please help!

I bought a 86 Civic Si yesterday for $450, ive been working on it today pulling the main relay and the carpet out of the car. The fuel pump wont run so im thinkin the main relay is bad. i pulled the carpet because it is getting water from some place. i believe its coming from under the dash. i dried it out and then it rained and was wet again, i hadnt ran the car so i dont believe its the heater core. also the hood latch cable is broke, any ideas on how to get this open? any and all help will be greatly appriciated

as well if anyone knows of some cheap easy upgrades feel free to share, im looking to build this car to be 50% street 50% autox

here is the car, no rust

I have an extra main relay if you can't find one. I bought my car, non running, troubleshoot it, replaced the main relay, new fuel punp and new used ecu before I got it to run.

ive never been a big fan of hondas, and my car knows it. i really really like this civic and would actually consider getting a newer hatch, but anyway on to today. this morning i pushed the car from my lawn to in front of my garage where instantly a screw went into a tire resulting in a flat tire, then i jacked up the front removed a splash shield to get to the hood latch which i got open by the way, then hit my head on the garage door a couple times before finally cleaning up that guard to sand blast and paint hopefully later tonight.

im gonna try to get a main relay or two today at a junkyard and call a guy that said he has a bunch of parts for 3g civics and 1g CRXs

so wish me luck

Your Karma is very weak. I am betting that there were pushrods in your history.

This is a 20+ year old car, expect stuff to be wrong. If the previous owner had a lot of keys on his key ring, the ignition switch could be broken (a fairly common problem on these old cars).

As for the water in the car, it could be coming from the sunroof drain lines or from the air conditioning condensor drain which is under the glove compartment.

i'm thinking AC condensor as rain. and don't bother buying a new relay, especially from the junkyard. take the old one apart and re-solder all the broken and cold solder joints and it will work just fine.

well i got another relay, it was 3 bucks so i got it. i put it in and the light came on but no fuel pump so i took it out and put the old one in and it started right up, then put the new one in and it started right up. so i think i have that issue taken care of for now at least. im gonna mount that somewhere easy to access just in case. now a couple new issues, the fan doesnt come on so the car heats up really fast, ive shut it off before it gets really hot though. and im getting a surge in idle from about 700 and 1200 rpm, its a pretty rough surge. TPS sensor? vaccuum leak?

and yes my karma is bad but not as bad as you might think, rx7 then nissan sentra

i meant drain tubes, not ac condensor...

check the coolant. sounds like a stuck thermostat or a bubble in coolant.

btw, that is a fantastic car man.

how would i go about bleeding the system? the coolant boils so i dont think it is a stuck thermostat. the fan doesnt come on for some reason so that might be it so i gotta figure that out.

my junkyard doesnt have any 3rd gen civics or 1st gen crxs but they have some 4th gen civics, is alot interchangable between them?

you guys have been alot of help and i hope you guys dont quit on me before i quit myself

well today i got alot accomplished, i reconnected my drain tubes for the sunroof after blowing them out with an airhose to make sure they werent clogged. then i drained the coolant and put a new fan switch in the bottom of the radiator and cleaned the system out by filling it with water, letting it run then draining it again. filled it up with coolant and seems to be fine now. i replaced the battery terminals because my positive one with the fuse and wire broke so i bought an inline fuse holder and put that in and cut the plug off and wired it together. so hopefully ill get the relay soldered tomorrow.

i drove it today and my clutch really is not good. i know all front wheel drives suck and since ive never done one it will suck even worse. ill have to save up to get a clutch kit, any ideas on which to get. i wanna get something good so i wont have to do it again

hopefully ill have her all put back together to go have inspected in the next couple days

i fixed the fan yesterday and everything was fine so i took it for a drive today and it decided not to work again so i was stuck with a car that was overheating and i was 15 miles from home and im broke...

so i let it cool off then drove till it got about 3/4 of the way to H on the gauge then stopped and let it cool off and repeated 5 times. the last run it got hotter than the others.

to fix the fan i replaced the switch in the bottom of the radiator

any ideas on what it could be?
should i be worried now after tonight?

well my head gasket is blown, and hopefully the head is ok...

i guess i need to get some money saved up to get a head gasket and timing belt and waterpump

how hard is that to do in these cars? looks kinda complicated

It's ****ing easy. If you can't do a headgasket / waterpump / timing belt on a Honda like these, you might as well kill yourself.

Shouldn't this guy be using a multimeter before he starts replacing parts??
