Default PLEASE HELP! B16A Timing Belt problem

Lemme just explain what i did to the best of my knowledge. It first started 2 nights ago, i was just crusing and decided to punch it on 2nd. As soon as i let off, car died. Cranked it right back up, idoled real low and when i gave it a little gas, it died again. so i checked my timing, it was off a whole knotch.

Amyways, p/s pump is out the way. i have no a/c, alternator belt is off, timing belt cover is off, crank pulley off, etc. so pretty much i just need the damn thing on. and already changed water pump and seals.

i start off with everything at TDC. cool. then i put the timing belt on the crank pully first, then up to the tensioner, then to the water pump right. but then here's the problem i get to. i know you then slide the timing belt onto the front cam gear and clamp it right? then that's when you pull the belt onto the back cam gear. but it just doesnt feel right because it slides on to damn easy. but im like **** it, i take as much slack off the top and front of the belt and tried pulling on the tensioner spring to see how much tighter it'd get. but the problem is, the tensioner won't budge after i have the belt on. im sure it's loose enough cause i can move it when the belt is off.

so will somebody please help me out. very frustrating.

oh and just to make sure? the timing belt and water pump from a b16a is the same as for the b16 right? i called jotech just to make sure, he said it is. just want to double check.

thanks everyone who took the time to read this and hopefully i can get my baby up and running again.

Before you put on the new timing belt, you're supposed to "loosen" the tensioner by loosening its center bolt. Once you do that, you put on the timing belt and then turn the crank 3 teeth counter-clockwise. Did you do that?

i actually have the honda bible for my car and that was the part i didnt understand. i did loosen the tensioner bolt, but i didnt turn it 3 teeth counterclockwise. so once i turn it 3 teeth over, i tighten up the tensioner bolt? cause how i've always seen it done my other mechanics was once everything was set in place, they pull up on the tensioner spring then tighten up bolt. but in my case, the tensioner just would not budge.

yeah, after you turn it 3 teeth (you're looking at the cam's teeth, not the crank) you tighten down the tensioner belt again. After, you should be able to move the belt back and forth about 1 inch. lemme know how it goes.
