Default heat wrap?

hey all. just wondering does heat wrapping the manifold and the down pipe helps much with the engine cooling? TIA.

yeah it works, but I can tell you from experience that it will eventually crack your manifold. It could potentially be three years later, but it will do it.

i have a 4 ft insulation on my turbo and downpipe, and heatwrap on the turbo manifold. wouldnt even think of going without this stuff especially with a turbo and all that heat soak. it reduced my under hood temps massively.

also keeps heat in the exhaust making the gases flow better, making the exhaust evacuation more efficient

why not just get it jet hot coated. heatwraps have a potential to trap moisture in the wrapping if not wrapped correctly. eventually blowing out your piping. On a basic bolt on setup, from my experience, a aftermarket exhaust manifold does not get that hot compared to the stock setup with the heatshield. if your serious about blowing money on your honda get it jet hot coated. http://www.jet-hot.com/headercoatings.html

Yeah, heat wrap is controversial.....Everybody who doesn't have it, thinks that it will crack your header. Everybody I've ever met or talked to who ACTUALLY has a wrapped header, has never had a problem. If you wrap it correctly, and don't have any gaps or too much overlap, you should be good.
Plus, it just looks baaaaaaaaadddddddddddddddaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssss ssss.

But I advise only doing the upper section of a 4-2-1 header, as going too far down with the wrap, may actually be able to hold moisture. Just to be on the safe side, I'd only wrap piping that is inside the engine bay, not anything underneath the car.

I've been thinking about wrapping my header for sometime now. I have to agree with lude_acts, it does look good. If I order a one inch wide roll, 50 foot long, will that be enough to wrap the entire header as it should be?

Mine is painted with high-temp header paint, only the first 2 inches. I didn't paint the hole thing because I wasn't sure how the paint would hold up under the wrap. The paint has to be able to do its thing, and with the wrap holding that heat in.....I just wasn't sure. Yes, it is OEM manifold, so I'm not even worried if it cracks. I could always just get another on ebay for $20. My friend has had his DC header wrapped for over 3 years with no problems. I used 2" wide x 50' long roll and had leftover, but I only did the manifold, not the downpipe. I suggest ordering extra stainless zip ties, if you go that route, as I messed up a few of them and was glad I had extra. Or you can use SS hose clamps or just plain SS wire.

Thanks. I know a lot of people hate on wrapping the header, but regardless of what anybody says, it looks way better than a lame *** heat shield with the "don't touch" logo, or a stock rusty header without the heatshield. If you are looking for a major performance gain, heat wrap isn't going to give it to you, but I just love the way it looks.
