Default How many PSI in your full argon bottle?

Hey guys, just wanted to see how much gas you guys are getting on your full bottles of argon. Lately I think i've been getting jipped by my supplier and only getting 2000PSI full bottles on my 150CF. This measurement is read in the shade at about 70 deg. room temp. Months ago I was receiving 2300/2400psi full bottles, but I'd like to hear what everyone else is getting before I say something.
Thanks!

I know acetylene and propane are getting filled less in the last few months. I haven't noticed my argon takes coming in light tho...

You're looking at bottle pressure, not cubic feet.

psi means nothing.. you have to weigh the bottle full to see.

you could have 2 pounds in the bottle and have it at 2000psi

Area1320, is correct. Its all based on weight. In the summer my bottles are around 2400 psi...in the winter months they are around 2000 psi. If your upset about less pressure, put a propane torch to it for a couple minutes...watch your gauge go up. HAHA.

temp affects the psi!

So when the bottle starts to empty, why does pressure go down if the amount in the bottle doesn't effect pressure?
And I see around 2300 psi or so in my 300CF bottle.

Thanks for the knowledgeable responses guys. Seems like I'm getting less than average for my fills.

For all of your trolls that do not know how to read, I said measured in room temp ~70 deg. shade.

Pressure and Volume are two different things. Take your 300CF bottle and put it in a freezer and see what the pressure is at.

Its the reason you run bottle warmers on nitrous setups. as the volume inside of nitrous decreases, you can maintain a constant bottle pressure by heating it.

I know that they are two different things, thanks for the info. But like I was saying, at constant temperature, when I use argon from my bottle, pressure drops.

You can't just look at the pressure gauge. Different bottles have different pressure ratings.

You could have a bottle that is only rated to 2000 maybe even 1800. Not all bottles are rated the same.

When filling the bottles there is a thermometer stuck onto the side of the bottle and usually its the bottle with the lowest rating. Unfortunately most of the time that bottle will set the fill level for the rest. Usually they fill a bank of bottles like 12. To much goes into just filling 1. The bottles are vacuumed out before the filling starts. To the guys that think there helping or screwing the guy at the welding place but leaving the valve open or emptying the bottle completely your NOT. Actually all your doing is giving contamination a chance to enter the bottle since they are drained and vacuumed before any filling is started. There is a chart to correct the fill based on the temp of the bottle as its being filled and they do get hot! Many of the smaller bottles especially have the lower pressure rating. Some bottles have a 2450 rating and also a + after which means they can be overfilled by 10%. Lotsa luck getting that though. It would be a nightmare for a supplier to try and keep track of. Check your gauge so you don't look like an *** and if its right and the bottles are consistently underfilled then complain. Its been a long time but if I remember right the temp at which the bottle should be checked at is 70F.
I am sure you could do a little research and find out.

And it will. Simply, by using the argon your allowing more room inside the bottle. More room for the gas to move means the pressure will decrease.

I try to tell my nitrous customers about the relationship of temp and pressure. You could have a small amount of nitrous and 1200 psi. That is why it is important to weigh them. Same principle, larger scale.

With nitrous your actually weighing the liquid you are pumping into the bottle. Argon nitrogen even argon/co2 mixes are a gas as fillind into the bottle. Depending on how the bottle is held you can get either gas or liquid from a nitrous bottle. An agron bottle will only give you gas no matter how its held. Both will however respond to temp changes with a pressure change. The will start to lower as it is used where the nitrous can maintain pressure untill there is virtually no liquid left. Argon in its gas state is filled by pressure. Nitrous is filled by weight not pressure. The only time argon is done by weight or with a fill height tube is when it is stored in a liquid dewar which stores it at a low 235psi but at a temp of -320 F yes that is a minus. Very large welding shops will use these. If they are not used constantly they will blow off valuable argon as the pressure rises. These are very expensive containers with another inside and a vaccuum between the 2 hich provides the insulation. All Stainless construction.

Never had a car with nitrous there huh. Bottle warmers maintain psi for optimum calibrated output based on the installed jetting regardless of fill weight or lbs remaining.

My argon 120cf bottles are generally at 2250 or so.

Edit: Posted this without reading all the nitrous chat above first...lol.
