all motor ls traps from today.
I ran my car today at the drag strip. I felt like I got three really good passes out of it for conditions and how crowded it was. I have an all motor ls hatch that Ive been working on for lately and wanted to see what it would do at the track. I also run an 85 wet shot on it occasionally and it really boogies on that, but I ran into some wiring problems today so I wasnt able to run the n2o. do you guys think my trap is slow? or where it should be at?
specs on the car:
92 civic dx hatch, some weight reduction car scales at 2100lbs with 1/2 tank
sitting on gsr blades with good toyo proxie 4's on it 205/50/15
tokiko illuminas with max speed coilovers
motor and tranny:
1996 b18b1 motor, rebuilt by previous owner with pr4 pistons ( saw the pr4 when I put the head on)
b18a1 head, ported with after market springs and titanium retainers.
gude performance bullfrog cams. lumpy idle but no specs on them
stock intake manifold and throttle body.
3" short ram with some gay filter from my buddys garage (had red heat shield on it lol)
stock ls tranny. stock clutch
chipped ecu with a custom base map from phearable.net.
stock exhaust with no axle back muffler
test pipe and jg eddelbrock header.
best was a 14.63 @ 91.88 mph with a 2.13 60 foot, fastest trap was 92.2
from the 1/4 mile hp calculator it says Im making about 145whp. I think some p30 pistons would really make it come alive because of how much harder the nitrous hit when I put the ported head and cams in.
I rev the motor out to 8k and it pulls good up till then, when I shift its right where it needs to be in the powerband. I was just hoping to be a little faster? (this is my first N/A honda, all priors were turbo'd)

seems good to me as long as it didnt brake and you had fun, thats all that matters, I bet it would be sweet with a ys1 tranny and lsd, so is it real torque or nice and flat power?
definitely a better tranny would help to go fast but that doesnt look too bad, would recommend a full tune instead of a basemap
full tune will come later down the road with my plan of p30's and custom made itb's. the power is great from 1500 all the way to 8k. the ls tranny doesn't seem to even hurt it. but I know it will go alot better with shorter gearing. hoping to dip 13's on the motor. and 12's on the bottle with 22" slicks. its a really responsive street car and does awesome from light to light. from idle to 1500 there is kinda a dead spot. not sure if it is due to the bigger cams...
A ys1 tranny is a cable tranny. He has hydro. Gsr tranny, a real clutch, Arp rod bolts, Arp headstuds, p30 pistons, Sk2 IM/TB, Rc 310's and a good tune on the sqeeze. Gl with the build bro.
the cams are killing it. bill gude had a knack for making cam profiles that would produce peak power at 11k rpms on a motor that will spin to 7500, or so it has been said.
cams come on hard at 6k and go real good till 8k, I don't think I have the really aggressive set of cams. I cant wait to drop in some p30's. motor should really come alive. thanks for all the input guys.

Shorter gearing and a full tune will really wake this thing up. I could see 13's out if it with street tires with your current setup.
With slicks and spray, I think 12's are totally reasonable....
Id maybe look into some ARP rod bolts when you do your piston swap...
Good luck!!!

you need to decide whether or not this is the sort of motor you want to dump a bunch of money into first. you might find yourself 3500 bucks into an LS and wishing it was a 2 liter vtec motor or heaven forbid a k24 frank. you start talking about transmissions, slicks, cams, P30s + rebuild....
i say make it an lsv and get skunk2 IM and TB, and good flowing exhaust, maybe some skunk2 pro1's with valvetrain and get a tune, and some p30 pistons. But thats alot of money so do what you think will suit you best

not much of a track expert, but seems to me like your trapping kinda low. I've seen em1's and integra gsr's with basic bolt on's trap upward 91 mph with ease and thats in a much heavier chasis. Now if your car was just a stock ls swap in a hatch, i'd say its trapping right, but with the cams and stuff, i would imagine you'd trap closer to 95 mph could be wrong.
its a daily driver that I want to be a little different.
I agree I think my traps are a little low. I know the tranny and stock compression is killing it.
on the n2o it rips real good I would expect it to trap around low 100's on the bottle 103-105ish.
really want to make a itb setup for it, or run a gsr intake mani with direct port n2o or just get a jackson racing gsr setup and make it fit. I hear the gsr blower is alot bigger then the ls.
all the honda's Iv owned in the past have been turbo and I got really tired of no one wanting to race or traction problems.
Ill just build it little bit as I go. I can get p30's for just about free. its the bearings and gaskets that will be the bigger part of the build. and I can trade my ls tranny for a gsr and a little cash to my friend whos building his turbo setup.
does any one think a lightened flywheel will help my setup? I really really dont wanna loose torque though.
also building a ls vtec is out of the question for me. I absolutely hate them. just personal feelings about them.
if I get bored of it I will pick up a gsr motor and go from there.

That's a pretty good time attack, more room for imporvements. My old buddies eg hatch with his b18a/tranny ran 14.9 with consistant 15.1's with crappy i/h/e, street tires, stock ecu and no tune. AND he had a 2nd Gen JDM b16a ran best low 15's. Weird, maybe he got lucky with the b18a. Go with the plans you have, p30's, b16 tranny and tune. Do what you feel like and do it just to say, "I've done it". You'll never know until you do it. Good luck.
