Lowering my del sol the right way
When it comes to suspension im pretty much a noob.
I wanna lower my del sol 2 inches and im not really sure what to get,
some people are telling me to get cheap coilovers from ebay but i have a bad feeling about doing that.
Can you guys help me?
I wanna also increase my suspension so i can take corners like a go cart
Is there a good kit i can get?

well you should start by stop talking to people telling you to buy ebay coilovers,
whats your budget like? do you want coilovers? you can get a good set of tein springs, wont lower it 2. but close

Suspension is decision based upon a few things. What do you plan to do with the car? Do you track it? What's your budget like? How much ride comfort are you willing to sacrafice?
Most people use the tried and true Koni shocks and ground control springs/coils. Figure out what you ant and then take a look and see what you can afford. I've read a lot of good reviews about the form and function type 1's that you can buy here on H-T.

i have had plenty of different setups and the best i have like is the koni/gc setup. it had smooth ride that i could dd in and was very good in autox.

tein ss
the first version of form and fuction those were crap
eibach springs

Look into an ITR rear swaybar, ASR subframe brace if you can afford it and some rear lower control arms if your Sol doesn't have a swaybar already. DON'T BUY BLOX LCAs!!! THEY ARE THE BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY EVER. I installed mine correctly, clocked and torqued them and the bushings went within 3000 miles. Buy OEM LCAs and get polyurethane bushings.
Check prices of full coilovers, there are some just a little more than what the koni/GC setup would cost you, however it is a tried and true setup.

^^ you can get slip on coilovers but youll have to keep stock shocks witch is going to blow them and it wont ride that good.
saveing up is your best bet other then just buying a set of springs and calling it a day lol

Then you're driving the wrong car. The del Sol may have a short wheelbase, but it's not meant to be a very good handling car. There are plenty of things you can do to make it handle much better than stock...but you can't make a del Sol perform as well as an EF or EG hatch. Honda designed this car for cruising, not for the track. There are horror stories of back windows popping out, horrible understeer versus snap oversteer, etc...
For $500 you could get the Ground Control coil overs but not any new shocks. I ran with some Skunk2 coil overs but they weren't much cheaper than the Ground Controls. If you have to sty within the $500 budget just get a good set of springs from Tein or Eibach and use your stock shocks until they blow. Or you could get some cheaper new shocks like Monroe or some basic Autozone specials.
Your Del Sol will never corner like a "go-kart" especially on a $500 budget. You can improve the ride characteristics for that much money but little else.
Also, with a 2" drop on the car you will have increased tire wear due to camber. Basically, the tires will slant outward and ride on the edges of the tire. This will actually decrease the corning capabilities. Your best bet would be to purchase some good quality springs, inexpensive shocks, and adjustable camber assemblies.

Also if you decide to go with a gc/ koni setup, and you only have the money for the gcs you cant run the ground controls with the stock shocks as the gc/koni and gc/stock are different. So you can either wait and buy the gc/koni combo kit for roughly 700, or you just lower your car and let it ride on stock shocks. Ive currently got gcs with stock shocks and havent blown them. Ive also heard from numerous other people who run gc/stock shocks as DD and havent blown their stock shocks. But suspension is ALL about opinion.
On the other hand if you just want to lower it get a set of teins and ull get ur drop.
i dunno what you're talking about... the Del Sol handles pretty damn well in autocross. especially the VTEC model with the stock front/rear sway bars and front strut bar. There is some flex with the top off but with the top on, it's pretty ridged and lowered on skunk2 sport shocks and skunk2 lowering springs it did handle like a go kart.

Read this:
- I've been working on a Del Sol as of late, mostly because the owner is a gifted autocross driver who can find the fastest way between cones - he would be fast in a mini van. I don't know what Honda was thinking (it needs to be cute? let's make it Miata-like?) but they basically cut the structure of the car in half with the back window... To make up for it they made it impossible to mount a real sway bar. Well, with a little creative cutting and welding we put a Del Sol SI on a serious autocross suspension - the same set-up that I have run on a CRX for two years without any problems. Day 1 saw the Del Sol twist it's frame so much that the rear window popped out of it's tracks. Later on the same day it bent one of the rear sway bar mounts. The next day the shifter linkage found it's way into the catalyst as it was falling out of the car...

I hear ya that they are a problem sometimes to work on.. but My Del Sol handles just as good if not better than my buddies coupe.... comparing two stock models of course.. I have a Del Sol Si/ Vtec model... and I am about to start on my suspension project so I have some of the same problems. here is what I have already: I have new ball joints, new fully adjustible front upper control arms, rear control arms and rear camber kit, all new bushings... I was looking at getting [B]DropZone Sport Gen2 Struts/Shocks+Coilovers 92-95 Civic as a starter kit because it is only $270 shipped... and figured i would upgrade later as I continue to mod the sol... what do you think.. working with a tight budget...
No FWD car will ever handle like a go-kart. It may handle excellent but it will never handle like a go-kart. I race karts and karts are rear wheel drive allowing you to slide the rear and get the kart through turns smoothly. Not saying it would necessarily be worse than a RWD setup...just a completely different beast. This doesn't mean your car won't be great for the streets or track but a go-kart is the wrong vehicle to try to compare your car to.

I got a set of eibach sportlines and a set of KYB agx's and it looks great and drives great.
I mean its not a set of coilovers but for just a drivers car i love it. up front i have the shocks set on 3 and set on 2 in the rear

But the point of a go-kart is that they rotate really easily, right? A lot of people try to get there with FWD cars...perhaps some reverse staggered wheels, stiff rear suspension, a giant rear sway bar....you head for the cone, swing the rear out, and use the FWD power to power through it and get the car in line.
So, to me, "handle like a go-kart" doesn't mean the driving style, just the quick rotation.
Those are crap. Spend $50-100 more and find a used set of Tokico Illuminas and some decent mid-range springs like Ground Controls.
