3 step/phase vtec?
Yes, but good luck finding the ECU to work with it, from what I've heard they're really hard to find. It's got no performance advantages, just gives you really good gas mileage
pretty much what he said.

there are 2 solenoids on a 3 stage vtec engine.
yeah, the engines get imported, but the importers just throw the ecu's out since no one wants SOHC ecu's... just DOHC. i saw two at nippon motors in cerritos but no ecu's... kinda worthless without the ecu. i told htem to save the ecu if they see it, but they wont remember....

its a system that incorporates both vtec-e and vtec into the head design. it basically runs like a d15z1 (in its 8valve lean burn vtec-e mode) then jumps to regular 16valve operation (like an d16a6) at a specified rpm, then uses the regular vtec system at a specified rpm (like a d16z6). it allows for wicked fuel mileage (like 45mpg in an ef hatch) in a motor that makes 125 hp up top. it uses 2 solenoids, one for vtec-e one for vtec. its a great setup.
Shares the same rod/stroke ratio as K20A motors at 1.62
If done right, theoretically can achieve the same specific output as the K20A motors.
It'll need lots of cash; but I still like the motor lol
