best engine swap for a del sol?
Ok im about to get my license and im gonna get a beat as **** del sol. I'm gonna do an engine swap and transmission swap in it and build the **** out of the car. I just wanna get some oppinions from yinz on what is the better engine swap, a b18 or k20? which is better for less fab work. im thinking the b18 since its smaller. I'm not to good with fab work which is why im asking this.
GSR!!! k20 is a lot of money IMHO but it responds well to bolt-ons.
this thread is never gonna end....what's your budget and stuff? cuz this is an open-ended question. everyone one's gonna have their own opinion about a particular engine.

Build a turbo sohc vtec...all you need is 230hp (car would be in the mid 13's to high 12's if you can drive) would be quick and would handle well still. If that doesn't sound good or fast enough to you then get out of the honda game and go buy something RWD, unless your one of the people who deem it necessary to have a 400hp front wheel drive car that's good for nothing but dyno and highway pulls.
congrats now dont lose it....jk b18c is prob the easiest but like the otha guy said too vauge. whats the amount of cash your willing to throw down and what are your expectations on power.
im working right now and saving up. i dont have a budget cause im gonna save up buy the engine and keep it in my garage untill i get all the parts, work on it with the engine out of the car, put the engine in the boost it. so its gonna be like an on going thing for probably 2 or 3 years.
Here we go....you're going to get so many answers from people it's going to be rediculous. For example, the guy that already told you that you should build a sohc turbo, which had nothing to do with the question you asked, typical. And the guy that said H22. Maybe it was sarcasm? Idk. Still had nothing to do with what you asked. Get used to these people.
Anyways to answer your ACTUAL question, the b18 would be better for you. It'll drop in no problem and you don't have to do any type of fab work. Problem solved. Now you can decide which b18 you want.

op, use the search. Theres so many of these threads. First you need to focus on a budget and power goals. Let us know those and the input you get may mean something. Of course a k20 would be great but isnt that realistic to most. personally i think a h2b is a good bang for buck or turbo d

The most simple solution without any fabrication is to turbo the motor that comes with the car. Dollar for dollar it is the best money spent. Buy quality parts and a good ECU with great tune and you can turn 200-225hp on stock internals.
But if you absolutely want to do an engine swap...buy the B-series motor. Although the K swap is really cool and all it just requires more technical skill and fabrication than a B swap.
For the money though...I stick with a turbo-D...

b18 like others have said will drop in alot easier than a k20 and you will save a ton of money. also i recomend picking a b18c, a gsr motor will make that little del sol fly
thanks for the input guys. 99civicsiguy, if i get any b18 it will be the c5. and for solo227, i would never put slicks on a del sol. this car is gonna take me probably 2 to 3 years to build and be ment specifly for actual race tracks, not a ****in quarter mile. i want this car to be fast and able to handle. if i wanted a good car for the quarter mile i would get a muscel car.
dude, first car for u, not even first honda just first car. a b18 is more than enough. get a del sol and drive it stock till you learn how to work a car and learn to drive on the street a few months, while youre doing this do some research and see what you really want.
a h22 in a del sol is too much for a guy just getting his liscense.
i would suggest a b18 swap, jdm. cheaper motor, cheaper parts, cheaper everything. work and save up and bolt on from there. get your feet wet before thinking about full build. good luck to you and listen to what these guys have to say.
also, where you from?

I got a del sol, and i am doing the same thing...
I have chosen to go with an ls swap. B18B1 non vtec. It has decent torque and is cheap to find, and the are GREAT for boost. Semi Built of course. and an awesome tune! You'd be tearing **** up...
So IMO i would go with the LS or a B16 vtec, If you go b16 vtec, get some low compression pistons, depending on your power goal and how many pounds you are planning on and either get it sleeved. and then upgrade the injectors and fuel pump...
I started a thread like this but for some reason got ****ing locked... but glad yours didnt i will be reading this alot.. man
GL with the build and keep us updated

thanks coreyfenton, the build isnt gonna start for a few months because i need to get some money for the junked up del sol, then money for the engine and parts and everything but will do.
Hey since this thread is goin.. i have a question about del sols as well... I am getting a stock del sol with no engine swap yet. I was looking around and im stuck between the h22 and a b18c. I have drivin for a while in civics and accords. But what do u guys recommend for a nice set up with these two that i brought up. (turbo potential, etc.....)
