HELP ON A HEAD GASKET CHANGE ASP.
I have a 2000 honda civic ex engine d16y8 my car has a white smoke coming out the exhaust. SO i asked and they, told me it was the head gasket leaking cooling .ok so i replace it my self.the gasket was very bad . I took the head to the shop for resurf and a valve job i put a new water pump new thermostat oil change the timing belt its an a good condition i already put everything back im sure i put the timing the right way, but i still have white smoke coming out and it sounds like the car its going to turn off, theres also smoke coming out of the radiator. Im going crazy. what could it be.?
Smoke is coming out of the radiator cuz it needs to sit and get up to temp and then flood into the engine after you put that head back on, if you spill coolant on your radiator it will do that, its ok. Did you torque the head to spec?
i had a real bad hg ... changed it.. still smoked... drove and after a while went away.. only thing i can think of is in my case there was alot of coolant in the exhaust that needed to be burned off

I hope this is my case , I kind of thougth the same but i wasent sure. i turn it off rigth away cuz it sound like it was gona turn off by it self, do you think its the timing,or my distributor? how can i time the distributor? becuese i put the rotor facing the v tech,is tha the right way or do i need to put it facing the radiator? does it realy mater? thank you.
uhhh, after every head gasket change i have done their was no more smoking. if so then you still have a problem somewhere.
Buddy, i think you replaced something that was good. lol the next thing you need to change is the intake manifold gasket, it has a water way going from the intake mani to the head and i had one of these go bad and had the same signs of head gasket problem but wasn't. it will allow water into you number 4 cylinder and smoke like crazy.
So check that out man!

Intake manifold gasket sounds like a possibility.
I have only changed about 7 or 8 D series HG's I never had a problem with the intake gasket.
When you get good you can leave the intake on the head and pull them together.
OP look over everything, think about what you did, think about what you may have done wrong...

thanx for your help when I replace the head I also replace all gaskets i bought the whole kit intake gasket exhaust oil seal valve cover tomorrow i wiil look over again to see what went wrong.
You can re-use the valve cover gasket a number of times. Same with the metal exhaust gasket.
Be careful tightening the vc bolts. The rubber seal keeps the oil from leaking out, not real tight vc bolts. They will snap very easy.
I'd also say most of us leave those metal brackets off the bottom of the intake too, pita.
