Default 1500 start up???

I have a b16 hatch and was wondering why it idles at 1500 rpm evrytime the car is cold. Is this normal? How do i get it to start like any other normal car, you know at 1000 rpm. Help me honda geeks.

It's supposed to do that. Mine stays at 1500 rpms and drops once it's warmed up. I have a d15b2. All cars do this man

its a honda thing. lol. if the idle is lumpy or drops frequently then it would be time to clean or adjust your fitv. but the way it sounds, its acting normal.

If its a honda thing then why does my homies eg with a d16 start up normally? Im thinking a switch from obd-0 to 1 will change the cold start, no?

maybe his doesnt have a fitv? the fitv is is what causes the engine to idle somewhat hight when its cold.

Most cars do this, it is used to help the car warm up. My STI does it as well, its not a honda thing its a car thing

My SOHC ZC does the same. Idles at 2000 RPM for about 2 or 3 minutes to help bring the engine to normal operating tempratures. After it does that it drops down to 800 RPM. If you were to drive it around for abit and say go into Wal-Mart for 5 minutes or so and grab a fruit punch drink...and walk back out and crank it up..chances are it'll idle at 800 or 1000RPMs. Reason for that is because you were only out of the car for a few minutes and it stayed warm, there for it would not rev high to warm it up.

That's completely normal. All 4 Hondas I've owned did that.

D16Y8 swaps don't do that (unless you go OBD-2).
They don't have a FITV.

What's the big deal? If it's not broken, don't fix it.

Hell, my 86 civic is carb'd and idles at over 2500 in the cold, 1500 would be awesome.

So this is all because of the fitv, right? Would this cause the rpms to drop low after driving for awhile? It'll be at about 800 to 1000 in the beggining then after a good 20 to 30 min of driving itll rev really low, almost dies. What is that???
