timing d16z6 engine - please quick reply needed
Hey guys,
really need this sorting quickly.
Im trying to get the timing right on my engine. It has an adjustable cam gear and new crower stage 2 cam. Im pretty sure we got the cam timing right but i can only get 26 degrees retard by turning the dizzy and i need 16 right? is it to do with the camshaft? do i have to split the dizzy and turn the gear on the dizzy shaft to get correct timing?
thankyou in advance

Have you checked out d-series.org and turbod16.com
I don't think you need to take the dizzy apart.
What are you using for fuel management and is this car boosted?

how else can i alter the timing then?? i dont understand why its so out... i can only think its the camshaft slot what the dizzy goes in is wrong :S

No. The belt should be tight, but even if it's a bit loose it won't effect timing. The teeth on the belt will still be in the right spot.
How much has the head been shaved ? Even if it's a lot that would only make a small difference.
Are you using the correct timing mark on the plastic cover, or the marks to the right on the pulley. It's been a while for me since I played with a D16z6. I seem to remember if you use the red mark on the crank pulley, your off 16 degrees. You want to use the white mark.

Wow, I just noticed your in England, cool.
Yes the white mark lines up with the mark on the plastic case that is at about 1 o'clock. I think there is more then one white notch.
check your PM

i didnt connect the service connector when checking timing... could this be the problem ? will it be out if i didnt connect it?
im not sure if it would be out if you didn't connect it, but i know you are supposed to connect it when you set timing. i am not 100% sure how big of a difference this will make though. bump for this guy. hopefully he gets it going right
