Yes i did search and did not find exactly what i was looking for. Currently i have a JRSC on my em1. The good ol' b16 is getting up on miles and im going to do something different for a powerplant. What i want to know is whether i can put the JRSC on a stock b20. I know that the bolt pattern is different but how different is it? I dont have an ls head laying around to check myself otherwise i would.

My buddy has a b20 from a totalled crv with 60k on it and he only wants $400 for the whole thing. So all i want to do is whip it in and call it a day. Some local around here put a type r manifold on his ls but i dont know him so i cant ask how he did this unless i see him again.

So what whould i have to do to put my b16 JRSC on a b20? Also would there be a better tranny option for this combo than the stock b16 tranny? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

 

how many miles? my old 99 si has 249k on it, and still runs strong.

 

Its got 168k. It doesnt burn or leak anything and its an awesome daily with the JRSC on it. My 91 si hatch had 264k on the original motor before i swapped it. Also didnt burn or leak anything. Im happy with my car as it is i just figured the b20 would be a nice little power increase. Ill probably leave it as is until it grenades unless this b20 thing works out.

 

i'm not positive on the differences in the bolt pattern, but just a suggestion. IMHO if it were me, yes the b20 would respond better to the supercharger than it's torqueless b-series brother but i would rather put the b16 head on the b20 bottom end. Yeah, it may take you more than a day but i think you'd be alot happier with it in the end.

 

It would probably be more work to put the JRSC on the b20 than it would be to put the b16 head on anyways. If im going to put the b16 head on i might as well do pistons and arp rod bolts and i dont feel like doing that. I was just hoping that i could get lucky and it would just bolt right on.

 

What? That's not true!

Installing a JR Charger onto a B20 is like changing an intake manifold, and adding a couple of brackets. It's easier than a head swap, and makes more power.

My setup, b20Z with P8R high flow head and 33mm valves (oem), LS superchrger that runs on the larger b20 crank to run 9 lbs boost. I have no dyno's yet, but it makes more power than just a head swap.

 

Yes but my JRSC is for a b16 not an ls/b20 bolt pattern. Unless they are they same which is what im trying to figure out.

Deetz I see you have a type r stroked to a 2.0L. Is the block sleeved with 89mm stroke or does it have a stroker kit with stock bore?

 

Ok, to answer the 1st question....the mounting flanges of the vtec and non vtec b series engine are different. I dodn't want to waste my time with converting to a vtec head when it's easy to source out the famous jdm P8R head that flows the same amount and bolts right up to any B20 block. That why i got an LS superchager, it keeps things simple.

Now, onto my crx. It has a B18C block with an Eagle stroker crank, rod and piston setup giving the 2.0L displacement. I have really come to appreciate torque, as well as good power on the low end. It make daily driving so much fun!!

 

I have a sleeved type r block that i bought for really cheap and plan on making a 2.0 and going turbo. I think ill do a stroker kit with the stock bore to keep the sleeves as strong as possible.

For now ill probably keep the b16 and just work on my 2.0 on the side.

Id rather build a block meant for a vtec head. B20 lacks the oil cooler, crankcase vent, piston squirters, and the block girdle that the type r has. Not to mention the external oil routing required to put the vtec head on the b20.

 

do a supercharged b20vtec build dude...shyt would be ILL
