Default Question about aftermarket wheel in an R...Pics added!

So, this may be the wrong place to post and I have searched a bit and never got a definite answer, but I'll ask R owners first. I have an aftermarket wheel with NRG quick release and short hub. Didn't get any instructions to help verify, so I have some concerns before install:

How long do I need to have my battery disconnected before removing airbag?

Will my SRS light be on after replacing the wheel? If so, how should I correct this?

Has anyone had trouble reconnecting the horn? Heard thats a big issue... haha.

Thanks!

I'm not going to comment on the airbag because honestly, I don't want to feel bad if I tell you the wrong way to do it.

All I will say is this, make sure you use the dead plug that is on your airbag. Plug your plug into the deadplug.

Use a CRX shoehorn piece for the horn. Dang it, I forget which wire to tap into for the horn on the SRS stuff.

Arg.
(also, I just unplugged my SRS computer and my light from the back of my guage cluster)

(all of this was on my 92 hatch. my r has both bags)

As soon as you unhook the battery you can disconnect the airbag. Disconnecting the airbag isn't the problem, its connecting it that can cause it to go off.

The light will be on, but you can just disconnect the yellow plug in the back of the cluster and it won't ever come on.

You can work on the airbag as soon as you disconnect the battery. I work on mine without doing it because it is really hard to short the power to ground of the airbag unless you are cutting wires that are still plugged in.

I wouldn't do it that way since it might affect the passenger side airbag. I don't know if it does but I wouldn't take the chance.

To run a removable steering wheel without the SRS light on you will need to get a 2.2 ohm resistor to simulate the airbag. Then you will need to reset the light using the instructions below.

Do I need to buy or find an SCS service Connector? This seems pretty complicated or is it really?

No, I used a wire. It isn't that hard, I was able to reset mine on the second try.

The resistor goes where the airbag plug use to be, the plug should have two wires and is yellow. The resistor is the same resistance of the airbag so the SRS unit still thinks the airbag is plugged in.

If I put the resistor on to simulate the airbag before i reconnect the battery, do I still need to reset the DTC Memory?

The thing is, most people who do this just cut the ground to the bulb or whatever and don't do it properly!

That link says that it will not pass inspection without an airbag... this is false. My shop that I go to said that the SRS system is not in question for inspection. Maybe its a PA thing...

Added pics of wheel after install. I commend NRG for making a pretty sweet hub and quick release.

I tried to use the above diagram to erase the DTC Memory, but it failed. I was able to reset it, but the light stayed on. I may need a different resistor to mimic the airbag. If anyone has a picture of the connection you supposed to place the resistor on, please post it! Thanks!

In my 98 I just wired up the horn for my fg360 and it was a blu/green wire in a three pin gray plug right behind the ign. I also used the NRG short hub and quick release.

You need to make sure the resistor is making a good connection. I had the same problem so what I did was add solder to the leads so it was a tight fit and then checked the connection with a multimeter to make sure the connection was good.
