Default Whats better to turbo non v-tec or v-tec b18?

Hey Im going to be doing a swap into my 1998 civic ex and I'm wondering what would be a better engine to put in and turbo, the v-tec or non v-tec b18 engine. I've heard the integra LS motor is better and I've heard the gsr motor is better. What do you guys think?

the vtec motors will produce more power on less boost. it depends on your goals and if you plan to build at all

B18B (non-vtec) would be more appropriate if you're looking to just boost it straight out of the box without building it up much since it has pretty low compression (good for boost).

I'd recommend a B18C only if you were interested in building it up a bit to make more power. But for a budget build, your best bet would be with a B18B.

the greddy kit on a b18b (assuming it will be running 8psi) will get you about 250whp and on a gsr would get you closer to 280whp. the LS motors are great for boost due to the low compression ratio and the capability to up boost later and still be safe.

would I be safe boosting a B18b1 with 150k miles? How much boost would be safe?

The Edelbrock Performer X series turbo on the B18 V-tec can bring up to a 60% increase on a stock engine. but a good bore and port job that with 9.0:1 or less compression and high flow fuel rails and a Walbro high volume fuel pump should help you out quite a bit more. I could go on and tell you how I am do the build for me civic, I am ordering a DART aftermarket block and head (The Heads are on clearance now so they wont be available long.) Its got iron ductile sleeves and an 84.5mm bore I am going to use either JP or JE pistons at a 9.2:1 comp with and eagle rod and Eagle Lightweight Crankshaft. I am currently looking for a good aftermarket oilpump to support it. Then moving to the Head either Buddy club or Skunk2 Titanium valves and Cam sets. Then AEM tru-time cams a greddy extreme timing chain, for a nicer look someone out there sells a carbonfiber head cover. bolt it on with ARP head Bolts they withstand a greater pressure level than any bolt I have ever seen at 220,000lbs/in then an Exedy twin plate Clutch. Russel stainless steel fuel and clutch lines. and a stainless exhaust setup. and if you want ac a stock ac condensor, heater pump, and water pump. Use Engine Ice Engine Coolant and Royal Purple full synthetic 10W-30. oh and a Moroso Oil pan. then a KOYO radiator with Samco radiator hoses. Flex-a-lite cooling fan and swithes get both the temperature set and manual turn on switch. Get an aftermarket transmission from Importperformancetrans.com and an AEM EMS with Wideband UEGO to fine tune this setup with. finish it off with rc 650cc/min fuel injector and the AEM fuel rail Edelbrock direct port nitrous a 50 shot and and Edelbrock Performer X turbo kit.
Well thats what I am doing at least

did you pick that setup by looking at magazine ads lol? The only thing the ls block beats the gsr block is on price and the compression is not a problem its all in the tune.

actually no I didnt pick that setup up out of a mag I have spent about a month and a half developing it for my car by using google to research and dozens and dozens of aftermarket websites looking for parts and that neither a GSR or an LS Block Its just and aftermarket block with a B-series Profile and much better cooling than stock has due to the larger area around the pistons for cooling than the stock block. and isnt the cranksaft what determines GSR or LS not the Block itself?

the thing about an LS motor is that it is ideal for boosting

ive heard (about 80% sure but correct me if wrong) is that vtec gsr motors are a little harder to boost due to the compression ratio

gsr block has more webbing, block girdle and oil squirters.

thanks for the info. I have yet to find info on how to best hook up oil squirters... I think I can probably look at it and figure it out though sounds self explanitory.

well if your gona run forged internals most plug them to up the oil pressure anyway.

Well Its and aftermarket bare block that I am starting with maybe if you take a look you would have a better idea http://www.dartheads.com/products/en...es-blocks.html
they also have aftermarket heads available but they are on clearence so I assume they are almost sold out.

Someone may want to check out the Forced Induction forum below. Talk with one of the Tuners in your area.
