Default Tire Wear Question

Hey guys, I have a 01' LS and have a problem with tires wearing out. Basically got my car in to balance the tires out and the guy tells me that he cannot balance my tires because my front two tires are basically worn out on the inside, meaning the side of the tire thats closer to the engine. This is also making the steering slightly shifted towards the right.

How could this happen when the tires have barely 8000 miles on them? My car was lowered about the same time as my tires using Tokico blue shocks and the Tokico red spring combo which I believe is a 1.4 inch drop. What could be wrong guys?

I'm guessing you did not get an alignment after lowering the car, correct? Toe changes whenever ride height changes, and when you lower a Honda, the front will toe out, which will eat the inside edges of tires to shreds.

You need new tires, and then you immediately need to get it aligned to correct the front toe-out condition to prevent future tire wear.

I agree with Patrick's reply, that your alignment, and specifically your toe, is probably way off, and is causing the unusual tire wear.

However, I don't necessarily agree with what your tire guy said. He can probably balance your tires even if they are worn on the inside of the tread; however, if they are too worn - bald or close to it, even on just that portion of the tread - then you shouldn't be driving on them. Maybe that's why he refused to balance them.

Also, if the steering is "shifting" to the right, it's probably because your alignment is off, not because the tires are worn unevenly. But the tires are probably worn unevenly because the alignment is off, so it's all from the same cause.

camber kit anywhere in your future?

same thing happened to my da
lowered it, had an alignment, took it too the track 3 times and my tires were raped.
got a moog camber kit, and took it too my buddy who works at NTB and he adjusted my camber, and toe to factory specs.

ever since ive been good

and my car is pretty slammed.

so imo try a camber kit and new tires+ alignment
itll cost you more now but save you from having to buy tires every 8k miles

Did you back in to a curb or something after the alignment...bad toe is the only thing that can eat your tires that quick!

With a good alignment, camber shouldn't be an issue. I've had a bunch of negative camber for a long time and have never really had tire wear problems. Although I have the ability to align my car whenever I feel the need

Either it wasn't aligned correctly before, or it has gotten out of alignment since then. You do not need any camber kits, especially with only a 1.4" drop.

The toe adjustment is what saved your tires, not the camber kit.
