anyone ever had this happen?
the turbo is a garrett t3/t67 and where the exhaust housing bolts to the cartridge, the lip on the cartridge broke off making the exhaust housing not able to stay on? i noticed while i was takein the turbo off that it had play in it from it being broken all the bolts were tight so what else could have caused this?
Did it have just bolts pressing on the chra, or the half-circle things that help clamp the entire circumference? If those were missing, it was too much stress on a tiny spot that cracked the iron.
That is EXTREMELY rare. What has occurred is that the cartridge itself has gotten too much stress and added heat then the rest of the cartridge in one spot. That's only happened twice in my 12 years of dealing with any turbocharger. There is no way to repair that, and is time for a new cartridge.
