WHAT IN THE WORLD. My crankshaft pulley bolt just fell out today. I have some questns
Ok, I start the car, I hear a pop, I turn the engine off, get out of the car, and there is my crank shaft pulley on the street, with an ate up key and a chunk missing from the pulley key hole. I got another key and put everything back together using the original pulley. Only difference is the sprocket hole and pulley hole are a little bigger do to damage but its driving fine. What causes this??
BTW, If you have a d16z6 pulley in good condition please sell it to me.

check if there is any visible damage on the crank. If not you should be fine. Buy a new crank, key and bolt.
ya the sprocket is chipped a bit, i got a new key and using the same slightly chipped crank pulley for now. There is no way to replace the sprocket right? Its part of the crank shaft right?
Maybe an obvious question, but have you had it off before? Did you torque it to 134ft/lbs, using engine oil on the bolt?
yes, I had it off to replace timing belt. could have over torquing it caused it? 150 +, when i put it on. this time I had my mechanic throw it back on at 175. My mechanic did not use oil on it. He has been working on hondas for 15 years now
Consider replacing the pulley bolt. It is overtorqued and possibly stretched so it will not hold well. Do not overtighten this bolt in the future. Know that: Just because freeing the pulley bolt after many years may require over 300 ft-lbs of torque, this does not mean that the bolt is seeing the equivalent amount of tension from 300 ft-lbs of torque. The extra torque required after driving awhile is due to the super fine threads sticking, not the bolt being tensioned. Very different.

ok, i will buy a new key and bolt from honda and a junkyard pulley. The mechanic said that the sprocket is ate up a little but will hold just fine. So I will change this out at a later date.
