bad question.
pounds depends on turbo size.

Figure out how many hp your engine can handle before falling apart, determine how much hp you want to run, and pick the turbo to suit your needs.

Since you are asking for 'how much' I figure you plan to push your setup pretty hard.
The only way you are going to do that and have it last is with a good tune.
A basemap is not going to do it for you.

220~240hp is about tops for what the stock rods and pistons can do (if they are in fantastic shape).
180~200hp is what people shoot for on daily drivers.

The t3/t4 should get you there.

isn't 26 pounds a little much for a stock head gasket? I want to do the build without taking the head off and taking apart the motor in any way. and what about a pan? Can I tap it myself or is there a better alternative? Sadly I olnly have enough to work with cheap ebay parts.....

Get a small T3, a Talon/Eclipse turbo works great on the cheap. I recommend removing the pan to tap it for the return line so you dont contaminate your engine with metal shavings.

You need to do lots of rsearch before you spend any money or turn any wrenches.

i'd say a gt28rs maybe, those things spool fast. and don't cheap out on ebay parts. save up more and do it right. no one likes a blown turbo/engine because of china.

f you are boosting the stock high mileage junk you might as well go cheap as possible on the turbo set-up.

No point putting a $1000.00 turbo on a $200.00 engine.

Cheap and reliable build. Mini me, OBD1 convert, P&P head, Vitara pistons, 12-13 pounds of boost, 1900 pound chassis, ZC single cam w/ LSD transmission equals out to 12 second passes guaranteed. Oh and some drag radials will do, preferrably BF Goodrich. And the build shouldn't even got you more then $2000, $2500 tops.
