Default 99 si tail lights

i just bought some 99 civic tail lights. they bolt on and everything to my 96 thats fine. but the bulbs don't switch over. are they supposed to? i was told they do by the dude i bought em from. I went to shucks and tried to buy some regular reverse lights and he said that there was something wrong with the plug. that its missing some wires and it is missing a connector inside of it. Are the 2 bulb plugs for the tail lights supposed to look the same? cause on the 96, they both look the same. But on the 99, the top one is the same as the 96 but the bottom one is different.
can someone help me out? im hoping the dude at schucks is wrong . . .

hmmmm.... no I'm pretty sure the sockets and bulbs are the same, except for the 99-00 would have amber turns.

Can you show me a pic of your sockets?

wait a minute... you just clipped the socket from the 96-98 tail lights and reconnected them to the 99-00? and it worked?

all you need to do is swap the lights not any of the wires when i got mine it already had the outter ones where right and the ones on the truck where round i just snatched up the plug from a junk yard but if the light where already working on your car before hand why are you switching any wires anyways

which sockets did you get from the junk yard? 96-98 or 99-00?

I didnt switch anything when i put 99-00 Tailights on my 98. I just bought amber turn signal bulbs.

btw. The red clean tail lights arent just si lights. Theyre all 99-00 regardless of trim level.
