Can I ref a 96 gsr motor into a 98 Honda Civic Ex coupe??

Will I have to get a 98+ motor. Or is it cool as long as it's OBD2??

just tell the ref that it is a 98 only way for him to tell is to run the vin and when i took my ls to the ref he didnt even do that. It is in my 95 coupe, he asked the year and i told him it was a 95 but really it was a 99, of course i changed the manifold and stuff to convert it back to OBD1.

 

he might look on the head or vin to find the year but he might not and just take ur word for it..

Same question here! I have a 97 civic with a i believe 96 gsr cuz its stamped 96 on the head. Everything is plugged up as far as sensors. But i had this in my old 96 civic but it got totaled and i saved the motor and swapped it over to my 97.

 

As long as the motor is from the same gen. you could. Make sure it has all the sensors and vacuum lines intact

 

I just got my swap BAR'd friday...reff just asked what year it was...couldnt see what they were doing tho, because they made my stay in the office..so im not sure if he scaned anything... BAR sticker says 00 tho Good luck!

 

your lucky if u got your jdm bar'd before this week. cuz they just change the rules no more jdm engines i went to get mine bar'd today and they said i have a illegal motor swap that was the sad part all the work done for nothing.

 

are you sure about this? maybe it was just the ref. station that u went to?

 

im positive. i had 2 refs there from 2 different area san pablo and alameda. they was discussing it while i was thhere and the one at san pablo was being a ********. the alameda ref told me to see him on monday to keep me updated he told me not to yank my motor out yet. im trying to call their manager right now but his *** aint picking up
