What a good way to clean your engine to your car
i wanted to clean my engine but i not sure if i could just spray it all and then water it down cuz i dont want to mess up any wires so if anyone found any good and fast way to clean it up or anything that they used that work good on cleaning engine it would be a great help thanks
Get the engine warm, then shut if off. Cover the dizzy, fuse box, battery, Cold air intake filter, etc. with plastic bag. Then spray the engine with Simple Green/Degreaser let it soak for 5-10 mins, then rinse with a jet of water. May need to repeat and brush depending on how bad it is.
Simple Green. I was skeptical at first too. But after reading a few different threads and seen a bunch of before/after pictures, I decided to try it for myself. I have a 2001 GSR and haven't cleaned the engine in five years, until a couple weeks ago. Got a bottle of Simple Green from AutoZone for approx $5.00. As soon as I got home, I let the engine cool down a little. Started covering vital parts, I used a freezer bag to cover my exposed air filter and alternator. Use a rubber band to keep it on. The distributor was hard to reach, but I managed to cover the top section with heavy duty foil. I also removed one battery connection and covered it with foil.
I have my own pressure hose/nozzle, which is why I didn't need to go to a car wash. So I sprayed down the engine real good. The hood was dirty too, so I sprayed that too. After everything was good and wet, I started to spray down the engine/hood with Simple Green. Use it liberally. You may want to get a small brush to work the formula into or around areas with tough dirt build up. After about...5 minutes, I sprayed it down again with water. And holy crap, looks good as new. I used a towel to help dry up the hood, turned on the car engine for ten minutes to help evaporate the water from the engine bay (open hood, of course). Keep in mind, I haven't cleaned my engine in five years, there was quite a lot of dirt and dust built up. Best $5.00 I've spent all month, lol. I should've taken before/after pictures (d'oh).
Rinse / repeat if you need to. Good luck.

I use the industrial strength Simple Green that I get from work, but the automotive simple green is also good. Just make sure you rinse it off thoroughly or it will corrode the alluminum.
I always cover filter, and dist. then red devil, or Simp. green it.. Might want to check under your plug caps after, sometimes the pressure washer will get it down there.. ...If you have plugs and wires.. So basically i agree with the others..

I try not to lean towards spraying my bay with the block not pulled out. I only use simple degreasers and cleaning liquids to scrub at what I can.
Here's a couple pics of what I did to my bay with the help of one of my friends on TI:
Before

After some TLC

The only things we used were engine degreaser (the kind you can get from autozone), clay bar, simple green, liquid detailer wax (any brand, we used one from a dollar store).
So you can see that it wasn't very expensive but there was a big difference in my bay after we were done cleaning it. Hope this is an alternative to you besides spraying your bay.

I use Gunk, a couple of nylon wire brushes, couple of regular toothbrushes, water and a rag. You need something like a brush to get to all the little crevices that you cant get by just pressure washing. Top it off with some simple green for all the plastic black parts in the bay cuz ive seen gunk eat the color up after awhile. Best cleaner for metal and such is gunk hands down, simple green for plastics to keep color. Good luck
Yeah its all about engine degreasers and heating up your engine a bit before cleaning. I wouldn't spray much if you're gonna spray, just a real light run through and make sure everything vital is covered. Then take a cloth and start wiping down!
Pressure washing is always an iffy thing for cleaning up an engine bay, especially with the block still in. The reason is because you risk puncturing or damaging things like vacuum lines, and maybe even your radiator hoses. Like I said, I would only do this with the engine out.
The best way is to take it to a professional. Thats what I did. Wasnt very expensive, and it doesnt require any effort on your part.
