If its really dirty the product called "Steam" is really effective, but wash the motor very well afterwards as it has a chemical smell to it if you leave a residue. For normal cleaning, Simple Green works well.

Simple Green is miraculous man !!

Do it when the engine is cold.

Shoot some water in the engine

After, shoot the Simple Green all over the parts ! (Cover the dist/cap, air intake if you have one).

You don't have to rub ! The Simple Green does his job !

Rinse whe engine with water and look at the job ! So great !

Hope it helps you !

Is Simple Green kerosene based? I have a bottle of Gunk, which I think is kerosene based, and I was wondering if there are any cautions I should take if I should use that?

It does say not to use it on black top surfaces, not sure why. Simple green is a more environmentally friendly product though, I think it is made from citrus concentrates or something.
