My engine bay got dirty as hell from a dust storm. Is it safe to take a pressure hose and spray that **** off. Or do i risk some electrical problems?

Simple green is your friend, some of the other cleaners are too harsh on rubber.

The way I always do it...
Cover air filter...->on a slightly warm (NOT HOT) engine, spray simple green all over the damn place->let sit for 5 minutes->scrub the stubborn spots->hose off->remove plug wires and shoot air down there, replace plug wires... good to go

I'm not sure if it is a proper shop procedure lol, but I just let my car sit till it was cool, sprayed gunk engine degreaser all over it and the hosed it off a couple of times. I didn't cover anything or replace any wires and it runs fine.

That's what I used to do... For some reason water wants to find it's way into the spark plug holes... ruins the plugs and wires when it sits in there and arcs against everything... runs like **** too...

are u running the spark plug cover ? I had this happen along time ago...car ran like ****.I took an aircompressor and blew the water out and ran fine.

I have a spark plug cover and nothing has happend to me.

plug cover is in place. It never used to happen, then water started finding its way down there. I don't ask how anymore, I just take care of it ...

There is a detail shop next to my job, and I always see them out back just pop the hood and powerwash for about 5 minutes apiece....


It is a small shady place though....

I don't cover ****. I get 2 cans of engine degreaser from the $0.99 store. Drive over to the self car wash. Spray all of the degreaser everywhere. Let it sit for 5 min. Put some money in. Spray with the car wash degreaser for a couple min. Put more money in and hose it down. Done.

If you get any water in the dizzy and the car won't start or water in the park plug holes, just spray some WD-40 in there. It displaces water. Plus WD-40 makes your engine shine.

I never cover anything and have never had a problem with water getting into places it shouldnt be. I don't power wash the engine compartment though.

Just engine degreeser, Simple green, and a water hose.

i always through check engine lights for some reason good thing i have access to a Honda pgm to clear my dtc's

You can power wash your engine compartment, I do it quite often. After all its suppose to hold up to wheather right? Dont worry to much about that alternator I had a head gasket leak once that dumped oil directly onto the the alternator, to this day the car still has the same working alternator. Now I am not saying to go crazy in your bay, and make sure you fan out the flow as much as you can. Just be careful and you'll have no problems. I personally use oil eater and a pressure washer.
