yup the USDM ECU look for a knock sensor and i believe the JDM ECU for the P30 is the P28? and the JDM ecu's are smaller
USDM P30 has a Knock Board and if it does not find a Knock Sensor connected to the car's engine harness, it will generate code 23 and set the Check engine light on the cluster.
Get a connector that correlates to the type of plug on the block, Solder and heat shrink a wire to it and run it into the cabin of the car near the ecu. Put in a female connector into the connector harness and then you should be good to go.
You might be better off trying to find a knock sensor wire and connector in the junkyard to use. They are supposed to be shielded cables anyway. There are excellent directions online for depinning and pinning the harnesses. squad-ff I think is the people that had so many good shots available. There is also pgmfi to search for.
This stuff is very difficult to find. Some say that you can just pin in a wire to the d harness and ground it for the light to go out and vtec to work. I am still on the fence about that method. Junkyards is the best place to look.
