knock sensor or ecu
I have a 97 obd2 GSR motor in my 95 hatch; I ran the motor with JDM and USDM obd2 p72 ECU without getting any check engine light. I get code 54, CKF sensor, and 65, secondary 02 sensor, as a result of using the USDM OBD2 ECU, but when I do have the sensor hooked up the codes goes away.
I want to use an USDM OBD1 p72 ECU for smog purpose, but I'm getting code 23, the problems could be knock sensor/ECU/open wire circuit.
I have read on here from other posts saying, "Blah blah blach...most of the time the problem is the knock sensor". Common sense dictate that the USDM OBD1 p72 ECU is messed up. What are you guys/gals opinion on my situation?

From this post I don't think the obd1 p72 ecu is tossed. Any opinion people?

where are you located? i say if it throws a code with the obd1 and not the obd2 then its most likely is the ecu. can you borrow a friends ecu and try it real quick? i think i can get one for you to try if your in my area...let me know.

I would think the problem is the obd1 ecu but the car starts and i don't get a solid cel. I quite confused.

I got the ecu from a junkyard. The guy said it came from a 94 gsr; not too sure if it's chipped but most likely not tho. How can I tell if the ecu is chipped?

open the ecu up and you'll see a chip if its chipped...lol. i have gotten ecu's before and the car starts fine but throws outrageous codes...but when i open it up i find out its messed up. one time its like they spilled soda on it or some thing(still sticky lol). and another time there was a burn mark like it fried.

Re: knock sensor or ecu (eh2)
you have to look bro i cant see small burns lol. you'll see it. it looks different. also check the knock sensor board. on the p72 the extra board on top is what communicates with the knock sensor. check for any burns on that also but sometimes ecu's just go bad lol. hey maybe its not the ecu. my best bet it to try a friends ecu. hoped i help you out somehow.
