Gsr or LS?
Hello I have a Honda SI 2000 but no motor. An i was looking for a gsr or ls which i dont know anything about this motors. Some help would be good nothing dumb. i know a gsr is better but were does the ls come in then?
I myself have had 3 LS's and love them but that is what Honda is known for is their VTEC!!! YAY ha but the Si is already set up for it and could be a cheaper swap if K20MEX has the stock ECU.
OP, your going to be spending more money ( possibly around 3000) for a GSR
I would spend the money on a GSR, i like vtec.
an ls does not have vtec but if you slapped on a b16 or a gsr head and matched it with a b16 tranny you could have a sick *** ls-vtec build. goodluck

Well, just did a little digging for you hope it helps:
http://asian_e.tripod.com/Honda_Engine_Specs.htm (Has a few honda motor specs)
http://www.geocities.com/chipman_13/hon-car-eng.html (Has b18b1 specs)
This should show you some of the differences for honda motors.. just IMO the LS is not exactly used for performance applications. There are however some benefits to having an LS motor:
-More torque at lower rpms, which is nice.
--b18b1 127 lb-ft @ 5200
--b18c1 128lbs-ft @ 6200
-Less oil burning capability becuase of no VTEC
-More of a.. typical ez to manage engine
There are major drawbacks to the b18b1's peak hp capability and it is stock rated at the wheels for around ~145 hp where as the b18c1 (gsr) is ~170 hp.
Also, it is somewhat hard to find performance parts for LS b18b1 motors in most performance shops, where it is somewhat commonplace for those same shops to keep GSR parts in stock. I speak from experience with this.. i own an LS currently
For your specific application i would personally keep with the civic's roots and stay with a b16a engine, i mean.. it was put in there for a reason right??
Hope this helps!!
goodluck with your decision

it got stolen a few months ago. i was gonna sell it but then i just wanted to build her again.so i was looking for something with power. see i dont have enough money so i want to stay in b-serious
dont put a b16 back in your car. imoa i think a stock ls with b16/gsr tranny will feel stronger in the lower rpms than a b16. i have driven my buddys b16 si and it feels like a d16 with i/e/h until around 7000 rpm. trust me you wil be happier and you can always go lsvtec later.
well if your dont know what u doing go with the stock b16 or B18C1 it would be less trouble on the setup but if u know what u doing and how to tune it go LS vtec... also if u looking not to spend that much money that the way to go first just buy the LS engine which is way cheaper then when u get the rest of the money buy B18c1 head or b16a1 head
im also going LS fully build cuz i already started on it and had a great deal on my build LS head if not i would of went LS vtech because there more benifit to having an fully build LS V-tech then to having a fully build LS
best link not much info but enough to set you straight <http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html>.
if you read you well see that ls vtec requires perfect tune. perfect meaning u really have to focus on a fine tune or detonation will happen. i myself have a gsr tuned by inline pro making 343 on a stock bottom end mild built head.
